I give my Silkies baths all the time-they love them now and when they are done they know its blowdry time and stand there with their heads up letting the air blow them dry and fluffy and shake off. One of my D'Uccle babies got wet and really cold from the others dunking her in the water, so I put her in a washcloth and stuck her in my bra to get her warmed back up-she was only a week old and so little the blowdryer would of blown her away lol-oh I got the idea from another BYCr awhile back

and by the way she is happy and healthy and never got sick from being cold

Oh Billy in the Bonnet is Priceless along with the Silkie riding the Emu
I really need to get some of those diapers ordered especially with winter coming. I keep putting down papers so my Call Ducks, and Silkies can hang out with me in the house and my boyfriend thinks Im crazy everytime I talk about ordering the diapers lol-just need to make some extra money so I can get them
So happy to be amongst all you other crazy animal lovers

Well, compared to some of you, I look 'almost' normal! HA!

Once a month, or more often if needed, I set up several tubs of warm water and wash each of my silkie's feet. Those little feather-duster feet get dirty and matted with stuff so quickly. I've told them over and over to watch where they step, but they just won't listen. While I'm washing their feet I wash their butts if they need it while I have them partially wet anyway. I only do it on warm days. I don't have time to blow dry about 16. Sometimes I sing to them while I'm washing, unless they're thrashing around. In that case it's best to keep my mouth closed. I'm sure it's an acquired taste, but I don't want to acquire it. Fortunately chickens can't roll their eyes.

This is hilarious! And so cute. I will think of this technique when my child is learning to read!

I made pancakes this morning specifically so I could have one to entice a broody girl who isn't eating enough.

I drove all the way from Ohio to Buffalo NY to rescue two little girls whom I fell in love with. Three hour trip one way for 2 birds that I hadnt even seen a photo of!

the craziest thing????? I call my chickens my 'children'. (they are to me)

last night we were having a terrible storm outside. They had just come inside thier coop all soaked. I went out with warm towels and stayed with them in the coop through the storm. We all huddled up together with a blanket that i had just taken out of the dryer and had warm oatmeal. The storm had 40 mph winds and heavy rain. I plugged in a mozart cd (their favorite. dont ask me why) and we all just kicked back and enjoyed the lightening together. I am glad my husband made me a really sturdy 10 X 12 shed!!!!!!

I like to sing to my ladies as well! Most of the time its Van Morrison's Brown eyed girl, But I make it girls so nobodies feelings get hurt. I also was clipping back some sticker bushes that grew into their pen one day and tried to rember how the Jabberwoky ( by Lewis Caroll) went. They enjoyed that as well.

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

-Greater lines of insight and nonsense there were never penned!

I don't do anything near as creative as folks here do. I sure to think they're adorable though.
