Never an easy decision and I feel your pain. Look at it like this, she has had a good life while in your care and you have done all you can for her including above and beyond. I know this sounds very hard and does not make it easier, but if she is suffering and it is a reoccuring thing, if she were my bird, I would choose to put her down.

Martha had a good life, just think about what she is going thru. Is it for her to end her suffering or prolong her suffering because of one's selfish needs? I know its so hard and been through it before. Not an easy decision to make. Only you can make that decision for Martha. Any birds that are sickely often in their first year of life, would not stay with me and it would cause so much heartache that I can not save EVERY bird there is but at least I've tried, and made them comfortable on their recovery and end up dying anyway. It is not the Wellies I've lost, but the other breeds such as the Spitzhaubens and Orpingtons.

If it was me, I would put her to sleep, have a good cry, saying I did the best I could for her but at least she is in a MUCH better place in chicken heaven.

Pink I like you drawing of Loki. It is because of the way you see and comment on light that I knew that you are artistic. One has to "see" before we make art. And in the making it continues to change that way we see and the way other see. So there. Maybe you could make a framed mosaic instead of on the floor. Unless you have more than one BR to use.

I love the idea of framing a mosaic, Thanks! That is AWESOME, never thought of it before. What a difference that will make on the knees.

I also love to take photos of the birds, quite challenging at times as you know but tons easier to photo a bird and get more accurate results than picturing an egg and getting accurate results. You're right....it is all about lighting. I often take walks in the mornings and photo the first light coming in through the trees, add an early fog rolling in off the river and I'm in heaven. Fall and winter light is my favorite.

After flower brought up framing a mosaic.....I can't get it off my mind. I like the idea of being able to take one that is all inclusive and framed off the wall so that it can be moved more easily. Thinking of using egg shells instead of tile. An eggshell mosaic! This way I wouldn't have to play favorites and could do one of each breed of birds that I have. Ohhhh....I can see DH's expression now.

Wow that would be good too! Maybe spray it so it would not get dusty or dirty from the environment.

If and when you do decided to do that, just let me know LOL!

my DD did a mosaic using egg shells on a flower pot for fair this past year- we read up on it on the internet and she used clear craft glue to glue the pieces down and then used the same glue to paint over everything once dry, it turned out nice... good luck and I like your drawing!
