The Welsummer Thread!!!!

This has nothing to do with feathers or color or combs But for those who wonder how good Wellies are at motherhood I got an up close picture yesterday. One welsummer hen joined a banty hen and together they hatched 7 little ones who are now out and about the pasture with both hens Yesterday a coopers showed up and made a serious attempt at lunch !! The Welsummer hen lauched a counterattack that was someting to behold! She knocked the hawk out of the air on his second pass and that was the End. In the mean time the banty had the babies gathered under a bush. When the hawk was completly gone the Welsummer called everyone out and resumed feeding. It was quite a show !

Kim.........you need to have a talk with your girl here. She's 28 weeks and still not laying. Tell her to hurry up, so I can send you some hatching eggs! The darker girl is laying really nice sized eggs now. If you want some eggs now, before the other girl is laying, just let me know. I have 2 pullets and my hen laying.

My 2 Wellies are 31 weeks old today and still no eggs.....

I was told that the line mine are from lay at 7-8 months old. I got mine from FlaskPointFarm and she said those that lay later lay darker eggs too. Has anybody else noticed this?

I have 2 girls from Kim and 1 is laying. But the other one is making me wait.

She is just waiting for the Barnevelders to lay......she didn't want them to be the only ones holding out.

I hope she starts laying for you very soon.

Take some salt and pepper out and tell her she has a choice.....you can either sprinkle it on your scrambled eggs, or on your fried chicken.
