The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Anniebee, if they've only eaten 3 over 6 weeks, then I would say yes, they were trodden upon, or perhaps someone laid a shell-less egg. That happens to me occasionally, especially if I can't get out there all day.

it's making me nervous that her comb is pinking, she's 3 weeks, here's a better pic.

Drats! I was so hoping for dark brown eggs... yes, the earlobes are a light cream color... I have three of them from a rainbow layer assortment from McMurray. Thanks so much for all the info! I just started raising chickens and am totally in the dark about all this, obviously.

I am going to post some pictures, I bought a welsummer from Meyer Hatchery, I love my "welsummer". I then went to a local farm store and they had welsummers in and they looked nothing like my welsummer from Meyer. So I started reseachering because I thought the farm store was selling something that was not a welsummer. In reseachering I found that mine from Meyer is the one that does not look like a welsummer. It never had a definite v on the top it had a solid red/brown, dark rust head, its eyes do looked lined, but now I am questioning wether I got a welsummer or not. Can anyone comment on the pictures and let me know what they think.

She is 3 1/2 weeks and really feathering out I will try to get a picture of her today and post. Thanks for your help!

It's marked more like a barnevelder. I've never dealt with hatcheries so I don't know what they offer or the quality of chicks. But for sure looks more barnevelder to me. If it is you should still enjoy this breed. Their personalities are similar.
