The Welsummer Thread!!!!

It's marked more like a barnevelder. I've never dealt with hatcheries so I don't know what they offer or the quality of chicks. But for sure looks more barnevelder to me. If it is you should still enjoy this breed. Their personalities are similar.
Sorry, double post!

I'm no expert, but I got three Welsummers from Meyer in my mix 3 years ago, and they had a real chipmunk look. One of them lays a beautiful extra-large dark egg. I have a Barnevelder, but got her as an adult, so I'm not familiar with the chicks.

also watch the chest feahers when they start coming in- pullets will have salmon color and cockerals will have dark/black color.

the chest feathers are starting to come on. She's 4 weeks about and they look mostly salmon with some white and a very tiny of grey. She's still a tiny thing, a bantam but a complete love! what a personality.

I am going to post some pictures, I bought a welsummer from Meyer Hatchery, I love my "welsummer". I then went to a local farm store and they had welsummers in and they looked nothing like my welsummer from Meyer. So I started reseachering because I thought the farm store was selling something that was not a welsummer. In reseachering I found that mine from Meyer is the one that does not look like a welsummer. It never had a definite v on the top it had a solid red/brown, dark rust head, its eyes do looked lined, but now I am questioning wether I got a welsummer or not. Can anyone comment on the pictures and let me know what they think.

She is 3 1/2 weeks and really feathering out I will try to get a picture of her today and post. Thanks for your help!
Maybe a partridge rock? Certainly not a welsummer or barnevelder.

That chick on the right in the bottom photo looks like a Barnevelder

What hatchery sells Barnvelders? I haven't had the chance to look at all the hatchery lists this year.

I'm seeing perhaps Brown Leghorns or Partridge Rock.

If you get them from the feed store, in straight run bins, its a gamble, it would have been a cockeral for that size of comb.

Recent pictures would be very nice if you can submit it!
