The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I've ordered them via interlibrary loan through my University library weeks ago, but nothing happened until today.
Unfortunately only the libraries of the Cornell University have all these Volumes.
The problem could be ... many libraries in Europe and the USA have different voucher systems ... a kind of library currency.
So it could fail therefore ... stupid.

But in this case I try to get PDF copies of the articles via interlibrary loan as private individual.

I hatched out 4 Welsummer chicks last week, I've read that some people think they can be sexes by the "V" on their head or the line beside their eye. Is there any truth to this theory? Here are some pics of my babies, let me know what you would guess their genders to be, thanks. #2 & 4 have longer wings and tails if that helps.

#1 and #4 looks to be mixes...so I wouldn't count on any of them for 'gender by markings'.

Here are the 2 in question??

Yeah I hate to say it but I would suspect mixed breed too. Here's what Welsummer chicks looks like. Note: the top pic has one roo and three pullets. The roos is the one bottom right with no eye liner and "V" mark on top of head.

These are all pullets below

My Welsummer update.

I bought a dozen eggs from bwalden at the end of May. My Barred Rock that was broody did a mediocre job of sitting on them, and I probably didn't help matters either, leaving her in one of the two regular laying nests. In the end, only 2 hatched, but it appears I have one pullet and one cockerel, both doing well and Momma is a better momma than she is a brooder. Pics at 4 weeks.
