The Welsummer Thread!!!!

Ewe.......It is my plan to get some unrelated ladies for him. My other girl, Cleopatra, is a nice looking wellie, it's just that her eggs aren't quite as dark as Feisty's. And none of them have any feather stubs. Once my new coop is finished (currently out of room), I can focus on getting those ladies for Moose.

Grandma......Too cute! Love the name Bossy Boots, wonder how she got that name.

Not sure if the color difference and size difference means anything. I can tell you with mine, there was a noticeable color difference and size difference for my rooster compared to the pullets. When the chest feathers come in, you will know for sure what you have.

new2chooks, Bossy-boots is called that because she seems to be the one who pushes the others out of her way at the feeder or waterer. As to the size of Chick-let, she is smaller than the other 2; there is no sign of dark feathers on any of them ...yet.

Are Welsummers supposed to have feathered legs...I was going to purchase but in talking with the owner she said they had feathered legs...I have seen no pictures on BYC with Welsummers having feathered legs...better to pass on these??

Im having chick withdrawl right now. I see everyone posting pics of their new babies and mine didnt make it. Out of 16 eggs, not one single one made it. Grrrr!

Don't give up! It took me several tries hatching - every hatch was nothing but a couple roosters. I finally found some pullets and I'm so happy with them. I would send you some eggs- but it's so darn hot! My egg color isn't the best anyway. Isn't Josh44 in TX too? He had some really dark eggs!

Well thats just it, this isnt my first time hatching. Ive had numerous hatches that went great. There was one other time that it didnt go well and that was with araucanas. But it wasnt anything I had done, come to find out that person had 3 or 4 other customers that had the same problem. It was a fertility problem. I dont know what happened this time. Yes thats who I bought these eggs from, Josh. Please dont mistake this post, Im not saying anythign bad about Josh's eggs. Who knows what happened. It could have been that the eggs went through an xray machine, or any other mishaps. Josh had lovely eggs! They were dark and a couple of them had those nice deep rich spots on the eggs. I would pass up having the darkest eggs, if all my hens would like speckled eggs like that all the time.
