The Welsummer Thread!!!!

I have eggs, but that doesn't help you much.

You could post in the Want to buy section.

I did, I got reply with a name that I pm's and her hens arent laying.

I guess I wont get dark eggs this year. You cannot believe my luck.

We had a "welsummer" that turned out to be a brown leghorn. She died from the freak heat while I was gone to a birth and dh was watching the chickens and though he watered them, he did not hose down the coop. (We had a week of over 110!) SOOOO, we decided to replace her with a marans or another, or an actual welsummer. I could not find marans, but I found this guy that had the Welsummer, that has again turned out to be a brown leghorn

, so As I started realizing she was not a welsummer (I really knew before I posted her, just had a little hope or maybe wishful thinking), I found some Black Copper Marans "pullets", was so excited. Drove an hour and a half to get them and questioned a little when I got them the size of the comb, but I know nothing of BCM's, so I got them anyway. Posted on here and they are BOTH Cocks! I have yet been able to find either breed in this area. The breeder said she would trade them out if they turned out to be roos, but I do not want to drive that far and she clearly does not know about marans, so I really dont want to get more from her. I would probably end up with two more roos

Noone has hens that are laying right now, I guess the heat maybe.

Check Okiehen here on BYC. I bought eggs from her a couple of years ago. Had a 100% hatch on shipped eggs (I live in Alabama) and they are beautiful Welsummers.

thank you though!

Hey all,
How long before I can expect my Wellies Eggs to get up to 'average' size. They are currently 27 weeks old and have been laying for about 3+ weeks. They are beautiful - dark and speckled - but still a bit on what I would consider the small size...

Hi Steve!
It can take several weeks to a couple months for their eggs to get past the "pullet" sized eggs. You will gradually see them get bigger.
