The Welsummer Thread!!!!

The Girls! Sorry for the darker photo above...they were too worried about the red treat can I had with me and they wouldn't come back out into the sun.

We got our first Welsummer egg today

She of course ignored the nest boxes and laid it on the floor. Nice little pullet egg, not super dark, but darker than our other brown eggs. Speckled. Just happy they are finally starting to lay. They are 29 weeks old.

Don't forget!

Have you ever joined one of the hatch-a-longs? They are a lot of fun and there are great prizes!!!!

If you are interested join the one in my signature and say I sent you!

And pssst, Kim, your girl that's been holding out on me FINALLY gave me an egg for Valentine's day. She's a freeloader no more. (only took her 11 months)

I caught her in the nest or I may not have known.

I got a Wellie egg about 2 weeks ago I think and nothing since...but I have a feeling all of the girls in the layer flock are hiding their eggs, they have free access 24/7 to the great outdoors so who knows what they have done with them. They were hiding their eggs in the tack room in a stock tank that I used to use for a brooder and now it holds a bag of shavings...they liked laying in the top of the bag of shavings because it was nice and cozy and because they can crawl under the gate/door and go snooping about, but no eggs in there now for over a week, me thinks they are being sneaky and I just haven't found their surprizes yet.

Okay folks, I need an update for the Breeder's List on the WCNA website. Some of the folks never kept in touch or some interested parties said they no longer in business of selling eggs and chicks.

So you all need to give me a heads up who is staying on the list and who is wanting OUT of the list.

Last time I checked I was still on there and would love to stay. Is there a club I need to pay membership dues to? I fell off the face of the planet for the past several months but now I'm actively working my farm and hatchery again. Thanks.

I got my first Pure Wellie chick out of my quad today. More are pipping. I did hatch some Wellie x NN eggs just for something to hatch. I wonder how they will feather out? They are 5 weeks old now. Do any of you determine gender based on the markings? I thought Pink mentioned that she did but I'm not sure if I remember what she said.

EweSheep, how do I get on the list?
Thanks,
Jim

There is NO membership fees. I don't think we ever did! After all the website is free, labor is free, information is free, why charge it to our members when it cost us nothing except the air I breathe, the food I will take and the computer time. It's the labor of love!
