G'Day from down under chillchick :frow Welcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

Three words for you: silkies, shampoo and diapers.

Another possibility would be using a rescued battery hen. A tamed bird would provide something to start a conversation, empathy, and a moving history with positive message. Not all rescued battery hens are instant-friendly. Will need some adaptation.

But silkies are extra cute and huggable. Showgirls could be even better than silkies for your purposes. They have maybe the highest "instant feelgood factor" in chickens (serama roos have it also). Take in mind that their exposed neck is fragile and for some problematic people could be a tempting sight, giving them bad ideas.

The silkie breed would make a good therapy chicken. They are fluffy, cute, and have the temperament for such a job.

Here's an image of a chicken harness:

And diapers are always recommended:

Though I do like a simple blanket on the lap instead of a bulky diaper.

Good luck with this exciting project!
