There he was bold as brass

Call the feed store, ours carried the vaccines for dogs & cats, it was $7 to give ours thier shots or $45 to take them in to the vet for the same thing. You just gotta have hubby hold/pet while you inject, the cats purred the entire time from the ear scratch they got.

Sometimes feed stores and vet hospitals will have "shot clinics" where the shots are super cheap - if you are squeamish about giving shots yourself.

On the gun issue, we bought a pellet gun, the kind where you can pump them up with air. We got it just in case we need it. You don't need a license and they aren't very expensive. The guy at the gun shop said seven pump-ups will provide enough force to kill a raccoon.

i hope we never have to use it, but i feel better knowing it's there in case of emergency.

Nocturnal animal out in daytime = possible rabies.
Be careful handling the trap! Sometimes a raccoon can reach through and tear the heck out or you with his claws. This would mean rabies shots for the tearee - major bummer! I understand raccoons can get REALLY big in Canada. Here on the Gulf Coast a 35 punder is considered enormous!

I know if my brothers have to handle those traps they keep those hooks that you use to pick up hay bales with. They just hook each side of the cage with them and carry them where ever they need to go.

And as a side note, coons are great swimmers that is why your coon dog has to be able to swim and sniff them out when they hit the water as the coons will swim back and forth across the water ways to try and lose a dog.

I have seen this posted a lot on this thread and if it was any other time of the year I would tend to agree, but not right now
They are feeding young and will go to find food during the day mornings, evenings and middle of the night.
so its not necessarily true they are sick or rabid.
You need to know the signs of rabies in order to tell, there weill be staggars and circle walking, laying down in odd places, do a rabies symptom look up , know the signs. then decide if rabid or not.
personally it would be gone before the next sun came up.

I used to circle walk, stagger and lay down in odd places,,,but mine was usually on weekends,,could that have been some strange and different type of rabies???cause I would be awfully sick afterward,,
