THERE'S A DINOSAUR IN THE COOP...Hatching again, PICS.

we went out today and when I came home she was sitting on the wrong nest

and of course the eggs were cold. I am starting to get a little annoyed now

Josephine may be disoriented from not eating enough. When my little feather girl Ellie went through a really bad molt recently, she was in an altered state - wouldn't eat, stumbled around - she was a mess. I had to work really hard to get food into her and now finally she is coming out the other side of it. I hope Josephine and her kiddos will be okay.

I just can't wait for these eggs to hatch and not in an excited way. I will be so relieved when they hatch (if they do) as I think that getting off the nest and out of her trance will make chicken josephine eat again.

((sigh)) 12 days to go.

One of my BA's did that--as near as I can tell she was off the nest all day because the eggs were ice cold. She ended up hatching out 9/11 ducklings (Lost her little chicky mind when they found the creek a week later!) Out of the 11 eggs one was clear and one was an early quiter so I don't think it hurt them at all to spend a day in the cold. I did fix it so she could only get to her nest after that though--didn't want a repeat.

Day 9 today.
I think she is getting better because she seems to be getting more annoyed at me when I am around. she was like that at the begining, so hoping

11 days to go. almost half way.

I had a broody duck leave the nest a while ago. It was pouring rain that day and the sight of all the other ducks puddling in the mud must have been too much for her. After 5 hours or so I took the eggs from the nest. Those eggs are now in the hatcher. I had to toss one of the eggs a few days after I put them into the incubator - but the four others are moving heaps. One has pipped the shell and has got a second crack going now so will start to unzip fairly soon. The problem with these eggs is she was still laying when she sat- so it will be a long drawn out hatch this time. I will be glad when they are out safe and sound. I love the idea of broodies...but an incubator is sometimes so much easier.

At least you have 21 dayers under her... Sometimes I hate the extra week ducklings take.

Day 11 today.
Just over half way

I think I have another chicken thinking about going broody

this morning she was in the nest with chicken josephine and growling at me when I touch her. But the annoying thing is that when I am trying to make chicken josephine eat the other one gobles it down

Also how long can she be off the nest for? I know everyone says half an hour but lately when I take her off the nest she stays off for over half an hour by which time I get worried and put her back on.

Broodies know how long to stay on and off the nest, I believe. I have had a few broodies, and each is different. So far, they have all hatched, and I never intervened with any of them.

I know you are worried, but I am thinking your Sussex girl is gonna do okay. I sure hope so!
