The plumber has been and gone, and the power company needs to turn the gas back on. They're swamped, so it's going to be a couple more days at least. What the heck. I've been without hot water for 3 weeks. What's a couple more days?

The plumber isn't authorized to do that? Is it a permit/inspection to make sure the plumber did it right?

The PG&E guy who shut it off said the plumber could do it, but the plumber's supervisor said "no, PG&E has to do it."
