You do realize that we're in severe drought, right? I'm not scrimping on my showers, watering my garden from the bucket I use to catch the water from my shower etc, so you can water your lawn in the late morning and wash your car every week.

We have them in pet stores, so I suppose so?

huh. I was told, years ago, that y'all weren't allowed to have them because They were considered poisonous due to the genetics

Yeah, poison ivy is natural. But you won't see me using it!

Oh, I've certainly never heard that.

Researching now and it seems the Danios were never illegal, but other Glofish were. The ban was officially lifted for all patented Glofish in January of 2015.

We still can't have ferrets, gerbils, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, or axolotls, though. (Among other things.)

Edit: And the ban wasn't due to dangers of toxicity, instead it was basically the same as all of California's other bans — they were afraid of feral populations being established.

Why it took the state government 12 years to realize that glow-in-the-dark fish are incredibly easy prey and, given they're all tropical species, wouldn't survive in California's climate? We'll never know.
