~*Third Annual Cinco de Mayo Turkey Hatch-Athon*~ all poultry welcome!

Well, 6 of the 9 turkey eggs I set under my bantam chocolate Orps hatched... The rooster proceeded to kill them all and eat parts of some of them then. I moved the last 3 eggs to the incubator along with 4 of their own eggs - one was pipped. I do not have a chick total yet.

I am very upset. 5 hens against one roo and they just let him kill them. I hate that rooster. He's mean anyways.

Edit: 5 of the 9...

Supposedly, fertilized eggs that are shipped can just sit there and do absolutely nothing. There is just way too much that can go wrong with shipping. So, it isn't necessarily Meyer's fault. :hugs

I want a doe! It's the milk I want.

I have 2 Nigeriean Dwarf does. They are super cute, they can get a little loud sometimes. I have yet to breed them so no milk for us but I plan to breed them this fall.

I agree it doesn't mean the eggs weren't fertile. Though I completely agree with how you feel, it is a total bummer to come all this way and then end up with nothing. So Sorry.

HOwever . .
THis is an unfair characterization of the this hatchery. THere are many factors that effect the hatching ability of a egg. DId you open 1-2 eggs at time of delivery and look for a bulls eye?? How were the eggs packed? Did the postal employees purposely shake the box?HOw many times did the box go thru the tumbler? Many factors effect the embyo just starting out.

Ahh the benefits of produceing your own food-- it is not refined. GOod for you!
