This is what happens... We have peepers!

While we wait for candling pics I will share a story.

So almost exactly this time last year I had a 15 year old family member living with me/visiting for a few weeks. It was not ideal as I had surgery during that time, but his parents told me to put him to work. I guess they are attempting to straighten out their teenager :gig which is only funny because it's not my problem. Anyway, he lives in one of the biggest cities in the country and I live in a town with a population of 600 people. While he stayed, along with making him do normal things like washing dishes I made him help me take care of the flock and build an apron on my duck run and go with me to the ranch store to buy feed, where it happened to be chick days. He begged me to get him a fluffy little chick, but I resisted. He complained, as any teenager would, about his chores and returned home to his family in the city. Fast forward a year to now and they are calling me because they have purchased pullets and chicks and ducklings :celebrate and worried about things like the unnatural orange color of the yolks from their first layer. My husband and I are convinced we are somehow responsible for this development and I really hope the two teenage kids take some responsibility for their new flock and can learn a thing or two. Next step is to get them BYC memberships! I hope to be introducing a new member soon. :D

one teenager at a time, back to farming roots and where food comes from

Mini vent alert... My Andalusian eggs shipped "express" on Monday. Yesterday the sender called to ask what the hold up was, as I haven't received it yet. They then only told him they want my phone number etc (which was never needed before to receive a parcel, even from abroad). He gave them the info, but this morning he told me they are still sticky, so I phoned them. They will finally deliver my parcel TOMORROW :he To add insult to injury, the postage cost a small fortune for "express" delivery. Ordinary mail would've been faster and cost half that.

He'd been collecting the eggs for me for about 2 weeks before sending them. Old eggs + shipping... By the time I get them in the incubator the oldest ones are going to need a prayer and a small miracle. Thanks delivery guys!
