This is why you should cover your feed!

I have been pretty diligent about putting feed away and such, but ducks are so messy they have feed strewn from their feeder to the waterer and it is all over the ground. Then, this morning set down my feed cup that I carry to fill the chickens feeder and the rooster did his little side dance for a hen and knocked it to the ground. :th I live in between corn and bean fields. Welcome to the buffet!
Last year I had no issues as far as the rodents getting into the feeder and so far none either, but I have a feeling that if I am not be able to keep all of the feed cleaned up, those rodents will be feasting in no time. Plus this year I added the ducks. What was I thinking?

You've invented a new mousetrap!
Old 'design' and very effective!

I believe it takes less than 2 seconds for 4 chickens to rip apart a mouse. I really can’t time them though because by the time I gag it’s over!!!
If they'd use their feet to hold them while they take them apart it would take just 10 seconds...but, nooooo, they play keep away for an hour(or more-haven't taken the time to watch the whole thing) and beat it on the ground until one of them eats it.

I usually cover my feed containers. Recently I have been taking feed out during the night.
However, I didn't do that for all of 1 hour past sunddown tonight. I almost puked when I saw this. Screamed bloody murder.
