This is why you should cover your feed!

I usually cover my feed containers. Recently I have been taking feed out during the night.
However, I didn't do that for all of 1 hour past sunddown tonight. I almost puked when I saw this. Screamed bloody murder.

7 mice inside an almost empty seed container. In 1 day!

Please cover your feed containers folks; these vermins DO get in! And put up feed, else they'll poop in your bird's food.

I drowned them, fyi.

I HATE mice!!!
I remember as a kid (feeding horses) sticking my hand into a bag of oats and scooping out a mouse with the oats. It ran up my arm and jumped off my shoulder. I've been traumatized ever since!

I took the lid off a can of oats and put it on the ground for less than 30 minutes. I put my hand in it and felt the mouse so I screamed and threw the can. My chickens came over to see what was going on and saw the mouse crawl out of the can. They chased it down and fought over it until one of them swallowed it down whole. That experience totally traumatized me too.

Their cute! But yeah, I learned the hard way to put my chix food away at night. Bags and feeders are kept in a metal trash can.

I believe it takes less than 2 seconds for 4 chickens to rip apart a mouse. I really can’t time them though because by the time I gag it’s over!!!
