Because I want eggs and chick from them I hatch and with them in a pen I don't have to worry about hunters.

Nope. Colbolt killed a snake not a big one I would say the snake was maybe 2 to 3 months old just guessing. It was about 7 inches, Colbolt bit down on the head and that did the trick but he left it alone. Coyotes and foxes are the things that worry me the most but we haven't had any recently but still. Raccoons we've never had a problem with.

I have my pen fenced in including the top. The only time I have had a problem with predators is a coyote got one of my Gunnies. Every since he'd got a load of lead poisoning in the rump I have not had a problem.

My entire chicken coop is fenced. We resolve pests with a 22. I get plenty of target practice but we haven't had problems for 2 years but that's what happens. We shoot every coyote except the skilled alpha who is a German Shepard coyote so he's big and scary for how old I was when I first saw him or her. I've seen him when I was a 6 years old he was just about 50 yards away from me. Seeing a coyote bigger then you and you're just a little kid and it starts to eye ball you with a little bit of stalking very scary. Just to let you know when I was 6 years old I was like 2 feet 8 to 3 feet. I was about the size of a calf that was 3 weeks old or at least ones from our herd. I yelled for my dad and when I yelled it took off and my dad couldn't get a bullet in the alpha. He's very tricky, when we kill the pack he disappears for 2 years and then comes back with 4 new members til we shoot them.

poor chicks. The snakes that get in my chicken coop don't bother the chickens or the peafowl they just want the mice. Though when they decide to sit in the feed pan waiting for the mice to come for the cracked corn they sometimes get an unfriendly bird that kills it and it's usually Colbolt, or a rooster, or a mean hen which I rarely get. Only had 2 mean hens ever since I started raising chickens.
