I'll try that method! Yeah, buying through online and shipping is so stressful for chicks. All of them covered in poopy-butt, stressed, and almost lethargic. The ones I ordered online were all almost sickly. Had to spend 2-3 hours each night using warm water, Q-tips to safety remove the feces, and drying them on low heat with an hair air dryer. It was I believe around 20 chicks.. ^^;I offer crumble to my chicks as an oatmeal like consistency wet mash. My problems with pasty butt, anecdotally, disappeared when I started doing that - but that was also the time I stopped buying farm store chicks with shipping stress. Only additive I use, when I use anything, is some nutritional yeast - when I'm brooding ducks.
Good luck with your feather babies
