Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Wow. Glad he knew someone. They don't think your nuts. They're animal lovers too!
I called my horse and my dog/cat vets this morning to see if they could refer me to a duck vet, so I can establish a relationship now and not when an emergency happens, which they always do with pets at some point. My dog/cat vet did, in fact, have someone for me to call. I talked to the new vet place and got a good vibe from them. So, their contact information is now on my fridge with all my other vets and farrier contacts.

My vets love me, but they think I'm nuts.... but hey.... there's nothing wrong with being prepared, right?

I used to babysit our vet's grandchildren. So luckily he knows me, or he might think me to be a little nutty. ;) Or maybe he does.. who knows. Most of my friends do anyway.

Except for my one bestest friend who calls and says, "What's hatching out today?" And then she names them. LOL.

His info is still being displayed, will ask him to give me the results data to share with you all. This was done from August until Jan hatching every month, sometimes three bators at a time.

Oh just had to share as someone on another thread asked for photos of a few of our Sebastopol girls.

Glad I'm not alone!

I have been seeing the oddest behavior with my geese the past few days. I am getting ready to post the following in a new thread on the goose forum. But, hopefully one of you guys could also chime in with your 2cents.

Breeding behavior in teen ganders??
I am noticing behavior changes in my pair recently. Recently they have been wandering around like they are looking for something. Yesterday they came over to the front porch (which is a distance from the horse property) like it was their intentional destination, checked things out, then went back to the horse property. Hubby said he was told they used to nest under porch. Hubby also said that one was starting to act aggressive towards him at evening feed… but they don’t like him so much. Then this morning, one of them hissed at me!! I was told they were a pair of ganders in their teens (but the person was not sure), so I am surprised to see what I am assuming is breeding behavior??

Does this sound like breeding behavior?
Would a pair of ganders show this behavior?
If it is a goose/gander pair, how late in life can they breed?

This is very typical gander behavior. The boys hiss, drop their head, spread their wings and charge. All trying to run what they think is a threat to their mate or territory at the moment. Not sure what the oldest age is for potential breeding. If they have nested under the porch before and never left the property then they could have been scouting.

So, if only one starts hissing, ducking head, standing ground and the other remains the normal quiet/shy way... then I have a male/female pair???
Scouting is EXACTLY what it looked like yesterday!

Hey Celtic, what day do you candle your goose eggs? I can't remember what you said, and now it's lost in Thread Land.

I'll be interested in seeing your son's results. I bet that was time intensive. I bet you're proud of him for his efforts.
