Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

So that's day 5. Mine are day 10. (Your set) My others are day 4 but I haven't candled them today. That's so clear. I'm going to try putting the flashlight on the top like that. One of mine (not yours) is so dirty I'm not sure I'll see anything.

Our bantam splash cochins are laying.

Whats everyone doing for the hatch along? I'm probobly going to just do quail, since that what I do a lot anyway. Wish I had more turkey eggs, but I'll never have near enough of those.

Anyone selling silky eggs??? I'd like to do some of those, or maybe coachins. I really want them to help out with hatching, if they are thus inclined. When we go on vacation, its better to leave a real chicken in charge, then trust somebody inexperienced with the incubator.

Hows the weather for everyone? We had 2 inches of snow last night.

I ended up using the snow blower and did the driverway, the turn around out back, the front sidewalk, the neighbors sidewalk and then had to shovel the front steps and back steps. Then I had to go to the Post Office and drop off all my Valentine cards to my kids and grandkids.

I buy the colored velcrow strips for crafts and then cut them up smaller to make leg bands. I can put them on from day 1, It has a soft part that goes against the leg and I can write on them (numbers, letters, names etc....) I vent sex my babies after they are all fluffed up and doing good and mark my boys with a leg band. If I have collected eggs from a certain hen I can mark that on the band when they hatch and put it on them. It's velcrow so easy to take off or resize and being bright colored they are easy to see. I should post pics I guess.

Good. Pics are helpful!

So, I really need to put a leg band or something on Twist to identify her. Her symptoms are not always obvious and both hubby and I were quite worried we got the right duck into the keeper pen. We mostly identify her by volume, as she is the loudest of the bunch. About 75% of the time, she does the weird throw head back when drinking water thing, so we watch and watch and watch until we see it to make 100% sure. There's got to be an easier way.
