SM 1 tablespoon bleach to one gallon of water (hot) is a great cleaner.

This is how I clean the bators:

Hot soapy water (anti bacterial soap)
Rinse with hot water
wipe down with bleach/water solition
let air dry
wipe down with plain water

SM- Is it your LG? I washed mine exactly how Celtic described. I used Dawn and did a light scrub, rinsed, and then Clorox clean-up with bleach. (great stuff)... Let it sit for 20 minutes and then rinsed and then air dry. It looked brand spankin' new and smelled great.

OH and Celtic: You have Silver Appleyards. Do they sometimes pop out black? Like more of a Rouen coloring?

Celtic, this question is solely for curiosity sake at the moment.... do you sell any of your chicken eggs for hatching? Hubby has a wild-hair idea to make a side-business selling duck/chicken eggs at our local farmers market. So, in case I decide to humor him for his efforts, you have the types of chickens we would want and of course, I'd rather buy from you than anyone else!

Loving all the healty new babies that are still arriving.

SM 1 tablespoon bleach to one gallon of water (hot) is a great cleaner.

This is pretty much how I do it too, but I don't wipe the thermostat with bleach or soapy water. Do I need to? It never touches anything, but I'm worried the chemicals would cause premature aging and damage to the parts. Have you had any trouble with that?

Yes the SMELL. I call it the "hatch smell". Mainly because I have to name everything. LOL.

I don't touch my thermometers either. Although my hubby has those meat thermometers cuz he BBQ's all the time. And ya know they are gross right? So I throw them in the dishwasher and they come out fine.

Just thought of that.

I didn't officially sign up. I just wrote in the thread for him to add me to the list. He did in about 5 minutes. I don't know what I'm hatching out yet. Depends on what's for sale on that Tuesday before. (timing is important on this one.. )
