LOL, Old newspapers on the wall for insulation is exactly what we found when we added on to our house. Most of the house is now what we added on because this place was like an old 1 bedroom farm house. It's home and I love it.

Agreed. And there's always something to discover. Like when you remodel you find old newspapers as insulation or wheat pennies.. Just cool.

SM - sorry for your loss.

It's always hard to lose them especially when you have so much invested in them. I hope the rest of your hatching goes good.

QJ- Whats Up? have you heard when you are going to get your Ancona eggs from PR? Bummer you had to throw out the Seb eggs.

So someone catch me up here, there are like over 700 posts since I was last on. Who hatched what?

Things are good in my neck of the woods. I'm going out of town in a couple hours to pick up a few Mille Fleur Bantam Cochin youngsters and I'm going to get 6 eggs for hatching out of the millie fleurs also.

Ebay got me again....... I just purchased 12+ wheaten Marans hatching eggs. I hope they have a safe trip here.

Shouldn't get them untill Wednesday or Thursday this week. I'm really excited about these because I think the wheatens are just beautiful and I adore the personality of marans. I have a cuckoo rooster in with my EE's to hatch olive eggers.

Oh and thats a story, My Ameraucanas are Easter Eggers. I didn't know the difference there and done the research to find all of mine are EE's. A bit misleading when I thought I had Ameraucanas. Oh well they are laying a beautiful egg

OK I need some opinions or help here. I only have the baby goose, which kicked its shell off too soon, 1 pekin, still has alittle left in its shell, and 2 buff/silver appleyards, with a lot left in their shells. My question or comment is, IT STINKS IN HIGH HEAVEN IN THERE!!!!!. With all the blood and old shell, left over matter and then having the others die in there, IT STINKS!!! Which has to be brewing the rise for infection to the others with their tummys still attached to open matter. What can I do? Should I move my other eggs out of the hovabator, move the still alive ones to it. Disinfectant the LG real fast and put the other eggs that are due to hatch next week in the LG? HELP!!!"

SM, get the bator that is clean heated up, humidity up and move all currently yet fully hatched over when it is ready for them. Then clean the heck out of the one they are currently in so you can set the other eggs in it.

Those yet fully hatched, are their heads out, beaks clear to breath? If so just move them quickly when the second bator is at temp and nice and humid inside. If not steam a bathroom up take everything in there to move them then you can put it where ever you normally run them. The steamed bathroom keeps them moist for the move between bators.

Good morning, hatching friends. :)

I am pleased to report that none of my ancona eggs internally pipped yesterday. They should pip today, which is right on schedule with the last hatch. My goosies have not begun turning to hatch yet, but they are rocking their eggs, so I think they are getting ready. It seems like the evaporation rate has slowed, despite my dropping the humidity and doing extended mist/cooling. Hoping that I will see a dramatic dip in air cell once they start to turn and absorb the last of their food.

And the best news of all: Twist continues to steadily improve and I think we are out of the woods with her. It's a good thing I can now recognize her by personality, because otherwise she looks just like the rest of the cayugas again, and I never got around to putting a leg band on her. Gotta love a ducky with such a strong will to survive.

Oh thank you Celtic. I love you. The other Baroda is running to temp just need to get humidity up. I will wrap the eggs up in towels that are in there to keep them warm. The babies that are hatched are all laying with shells still intact except for the goose. She kicked hers off way to soon so her belly is all extended with the stuff still attached to her belly. I will get busy now
What can I use to disinfect the incubator the babies were in?

Well, I'm going to call it a night. Tomorrow is candling day! Cross your fingers that those little duckies are partying down in their eggs! If I get 3 to hatch, I'll be happy. Trying to go into this with realistic expectations as a rookie hatcher.

What kind of incubator are you using? Fan or no fan? What temp/humidity are you maintaining? Did you test your thermometer/hygrometer for accuracy?

Chicken Crazy, my ancona is getting lots of color and I have 12 more ancona eggs hatching in about 3 days!!!!
