Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Great pics, QJ! I love the new ancona sweethearts!! By the way, I noticed my ancona does not like swimming nearly as much as the cayugas. Maybe it's a breed thing??? Also, my ancona has SO much color. I feel guilty I ever thought he/she was a pekin. It looks like slate grey. Pretty!!

Marty, thanks... I'll wait a few more days, then maybe take a brief video of each of the 3 for sale to get 2nd/3rd/4th/etc opinions before I call the buyer who is waiting for her ducks.

Beaker was 5 weeks old when she let out a "Quack!" And then she looked confused like, "Who did that?"

I was just catching up on my theads when I heard a commotion outside. Went out and one of our neighbors Britneys had climbed my 6" fence, and seemed oh so very proud to have one of my lovely white Peking ladies in his stupid ugly mouth. The owner paid me (again) for the duck (again....This is the FOURTH TIME in 2 years)

He is old, and kind, and the dog just gets out sometimes, but

!!

Im just so mad right now.

So sorry Marty! What a bummer. And how on earth did that dog climb that fence? Wowza! :(

That's awful Marty. At least they pay for it and are sorry. Idiot neighbors here's rat terrier looking mutts keep coming and chasing my birds and tearing up the fence along side the pen. They bit one of them a few days ago, but just got feathers. If I say something all they do is keep their dogs in their yard for 2 days. I'm about to trap the little bastards and have animal control pick them up.

OMG Marty. That is awful! It is a dog's nature and accidents do happen. But merely paying for your lost duck would not be enough for me.

Freckles is a very gifted climber. He used to be in their wood fenced backyard, but started getting out a couple of years ago. He just climbs my fence like a ladder, and kind jumps/falls in. Usually the ducks get upset when he shows, so sometimes I get him before he gets in, but not today. He's an escape artist, and Bob (the neighbor) is about 87 now, so if he forgets and puts him in the backyard, or Freckles makes a dash for it, he can get away. :-(

Don't want Bob to put the dog down, but don't feel I should have to do more than a 6" fence. He never bugs the turkeys, and the quail are in the garage, so he can't reach them. Guess the ducks are the only souls he can overpower. I've wondered if he like them because hes a bird dog, but I don't know. :-(

He killed another neighbors two chickens a last year. Bob just pays for them, always very very sorry, but I wish I knew how to help him. He gets so upset when he does it, but since his wife died, he just can't get rid of him. (He was Deloris's dog)

Sounds like a bad situation all around. Still, he needs to spend what it takes to build or repair his backyard fence so that it is secure... or pay to have a fence built at your place that will secure your property from his dog.

I suppose we should offer to help him add fence to his backyard, if he'll buy supplies. Thats a pretty good idea, thank you. Would electric fence on top of a wood fence work, do you think? That would be fairly easy to instill. It would be worth the trouble to never have his dog in my ducks again. Other dogs come around, but so far hes the one and only ace climber.

Poor Bob. Ya know, it sucks and I'd be p*ssed, but not at Bob. That's somebody's Grandpa. And he just lost his poor wife. And that was her dog. I can't imagine.

And I'm only being sensitive to Bob because I lost my Grandpa not too long ago and we miss him terribly. So does Grandma. :(

You're a good neighbor to be kind to him when you're so

on the inside.
Is it a chain link fence? I'm uber impressed with Freckles mad skilz.
