Ok so here is the convo with my dad yesterday as we were clearing out brush in the chicken area...

Me: "Let me explain what I want to do.. the breeding pens will be here.. and the grow out pen will be here.."
Dad: "What's a grow out pen?"
Me: "Where I'll put the babies that will be.. ya know.. growing out."
Dad: "Ok, Listen.. chickens aren't that complicated. You put them in a pen, you feed them, they lay an egg and you eat it."
Me: "No dad. These are city chickens."
Dad: (sigh... eye roll)

I know right!!! When he sees how much my cream legbar eggs are gonna bring his eyes will perk up. LOL!!

I also told him I wanted to get his turkeys in the spring. (like he had mentioned) and he says, "Sounds like you need to get your chickens in order before you add more work to do. So just put the chickens in here. (this area)."

So I said, "Ok.. I'll just focus on the chickens then.....(dramatic pause)... and the ducks."

Dad turns around and give me "the look".
And I say, "What?"

I wish I had it on tape. You guys would laugh your butts off.

He absolutely does. I always say, "I remember when chickens were a neccessity, not a novelty."

My flock is ALLLL novelty. LOL. But I really want to get some red-sex links for eggs. Got them from TSC last spring. Those thing lay a HUGE egg everyday! Love them! My 3 hens haven't laid an egg in 2 weeks. 2 WEEKS!

My dad's an old school farmer. Gotta love em. They are the BEST kinda men. BUT everything is also black and white.

I keep having this thought of him going to get some eggs to make breakfast and grabbing the cream legbar eggs. And me saying, "You ate the Cream Legbar eggs??? Those are expensive eggs!!" And him saying, "But they were this pretty blue color. I've never eaten a blue egg before."

That ends with me emailed a potential buyer and saying, "I'm sorry I will have to ship your eggs in a couple days. My dad made an omelet with them."

thats what i always say also!!! when there were two kind of chickens in the world FOOD and LAYERS
why does it have to be soooo complicating now
then my husband replys "ITS NOT RACHEL YOUR THE COMPLICATION!!! i just wanted layers that i could eat.. now your ooo thats pretty ooo i want that ooooo look at that one UGH!!! i wanna rip my hair out.."
as i reply "hun you shave your head you cant pull your hair"

i feel your pain girl mine didnt lay all winter starting in october then a few days ago i got one egg you would have thought i found the city of atlantas LOL!!!
