Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I am still alive. For now.

One leaves at 3:15, and one is my nephew and he'll be here for awhile. But he's my nephew after all.

Duck #4 is out.

I need another brooder since I had to move gray chick to "sick bay".. ie: my remaining ducky brooder.

Question for those with goslings: What type of flooring do you use for indoor brooding? I have been using towels, but I noticed that in the past few days, my goslings toenails are getting caught in threads when they walk.

QJ, It may be worth a try to put Fiona with the new ducks once they are a few days old.

Morning all.... well still morning for a little while

i use equine fresh horse bedding.
its pellets.
it works pretty well.
when it gets wet it breaks apart and turns into shavings. but drys pretty fast.
does a good job of keeping moisture away from the little ones,

Duckies just went into sick bay... lol. I need another light.. This could get interesting.

Fiona is mad at me because I would usually let her out by now.. but there are too many kids here today.

And by "out" I mean.. I let her walk around the kitchen for exercise. :)

QJ- I'd try putting her with the appleyards. By the time she's a week or 2 she should be caught up and as big as, if not bigger than them.
Iain- I use the shelf liner stuff the first week, shavings after that. I just put an inch or so, then add another inch every few hours and change it at night. I want to try the wood pellets though.
