Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Help!!! I have vent checked and vent check this WH and I can not find a PEE PEE. But I am told looking at the head that it is a drake. What do ypu thnk? I want to sell this bird todah so I need to know what is it......................................

Adorable. That's what it is. I'm going to guess drake. The older they get, the better they are at hiding their peepee from you, so I hear!

Two questions that I hope you guys can answer.

1. Can a female duck show first voice changes at 5 weeks? I have a cayuga that I thought was a boy, but in the past few days, he has been getting louder and more of a whistle sound instead of the raspy sound of the other 2 boys.

2. Anyone ever have a developing embryo stuck to side of shell? Will it hatch ok? I have a cayuga on day 15 that I think is alive, but stuck on side.

I'm pretty sure my girls started quacking around 5 weeks. My girls started talking in their adult voices a week or two before the boys got their rasps on.

Utah: I'm getting random quacks at 5 weeks. That's when I start to listen for it. Sucks about the eggs!

Celtic: updates as you get them.. both hubby and goosey.

SM: Drake?...

I'm having connectivity issues... and I stayed up WAY too late last night. 3 yr old was having bad dreams and some coughing. She ended up in my bed and... well, ya know how good you sleep with a 3 yr old beside you. (eye roll)

My friend Dwayne is bringing me turkey and goose eggs to hatch for him. Never done turkeys before. So you turkey ppl get ready. I'm assuming it's the same as a chicken.

My four year old crawled into bed with us last night, so I feel your pain. They're all knees, elbows and hard head at that age!

I'd like some Holstein Heifer hatching eggs. Willing to pay top dollar.

How big is your incubator? Those aren't small eggs. Can you lift 300-500 lbs?

on a calmer note.
today was outing # 1 for the monsters.

sory its sideways lol.
and pardon the hot pink rain boots i was in the creek earlier catching frogs (yes we have baby fogs already down there)

follow the leader.

Aww. Love your rain boots! And the fact that you're catching frogs already!

Our Pacific Tree Frogs just woke up last weekend. I'm so happy to hear their singing again!

I just lost a duck a few hours ago during zip. I saw the beak for a while and then it started to zip and kept turning without zipping. Then ended up being on the other side of the egg trying to break out of it and couldn't and drowned in the fluids in the shell.

I wished I would have helped it but thought it was doing fine. I could hear it and see it breathing, it all happened fast. I was watching the whole time it happened and acted quickly to try to help it out. But it was too late.

I'm so sorry. I lost one because I didn't realize it was in trouble until too late. But because of that, I managed to save another that would have died the same way.

I missed 100% by 1 chick/egg a few times .... I got 23 ot of 24 Anconas, 13 out of 14 Iowa blues, 11 out of 14 Sussex, 22 out of 30 RIR, 18 out of 19 buckeye/maran, 8 out of 12 Cayuga/Call duck eggs, 13 out of 14 light Brahmas, 5 out of 7 Jersey Giants, 9 out of 11 Lemon Cuckoo Marans..... These are some of my good hatches, but I have also had 50-60% hatches & some - where I only get 1-4 out of a dozen or more. But yes when you can buy locally it is a BONUS !

I don't like buying shipped eggs, even though I have some coming very soon! Too many variables on a process that's already very touchy.

But you can be successful with shipped eggs. I've seen lots of people on here who are. I'm just reluctant to take risks if I can find stock locally as easy.

8 of 11 from eggs that took a short car trip is pretty good for a first-timer like me. Who was it here who got a 100% hatch from shipped eggs?

I can't wait to hatch some from my own flock, but I'm holding off for a while since they just resumed laying after winter break.

Hey guys. Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday afternoon. The weather here is wonderful, so I took our goslings outside for their first time. They did not seem to like it, unless I was inside the pen with them. Ah well, maybe they are still too young at 16 days old.

Here are a couple of pics (as promised).
