Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I'm glad the only child in our house is a 10 month old Olde English Bulldoggie and he's crate trained!!

The joys of being Grandma... a full night sleep (when hubby doesn't snore to loud)

I miss sleep.

Has squishy made any progress yet?

Just candled my EE eggs. Out of the 14 in the incubator I have 9 with veins and heartbeats. 2 of the others the shell is really hard to see through, and I'll give the other 3 until day 7 just in case. I don't know how the ones under the broody are doing, I'll candle those tomorrow maybe. It's cold and rainy today, not messing with anything out there today.

Evening all. End of the day chores are done once again. Darn rainy weather had all the chickens acting stoooooopid! The geese are like oh ok, thanks for the scratch or pet off to bed we go. Almost all the ducklings are out of the house a d in the brooder. 6 more to carry out yet tonight.

Milo looks at me every time I bring new ducklings out like I have lost my mind. Bet he will be happy to have other goslings. Speaking of which, all of our ID bands should arrive this week for tracking breeding and such.

Haven't been to see hubby today, but the weather was just too nasty and the winds too strong to draw back off the island. The Dr's now seem to think there was no stroke. :D they can't explain the loss the strength on his left side though, so being referred to another specialist. He MIGHT get released tonight, but most likely not till tomorrow morning now.

3 Sebbie eggs have large holes now, 1 (sassy egg) has a large pink bill, PandoraSampson egg appears that the bill is darker, the third (Sassy's other egg) looks to also be darker. Hoping we get two girls and boy this go around.

Praying for your hubby. Hope all is well and he is released soon. It must be hard on you taking care of everything at home with him gone. Thanks for keeping us updated!

Thanks Julie, hardest part is evening chores without his help. We sweep the property as a team. One does water the other feed, then we put everyone up. Now just me to do it. This too shall pass is what I keep saying.

Congrats on the good veining in the eggs set.

Update:

The one that has been moving has still not pipped, however, I have two others that have externally pipped. however, one of them has pipped on the lower side of the shell, ie, facing the ground. Should I rotate the egg so it is facing upwards?

I have added a humidifier to the room as well, so that should help the general humidity in the bator.

I'd leave it. Good idea on the humidifier.

Can anyone help? I have a chick that pipped at the wrong end of the egg. Not in the air cell! Will it make it? Can I help? Not sure what to do. Any help would be great!

Has it pipped through the shell? As long as it can breath, wait and see if it can zip on it's own. A bunch of people have had chicks pipping the wrong end on here, and they've been getting out ok.

OK, will do.

We now have 2 more that have pipped, just in the last few minutes. And yet another is facing downwards with his pip, and I thought I had them all rotated the right way.

Oh, and we can hear some cheeping.

It has pipped, yes. That's how I noticed it was at the wrong end. It was actually out under Momma duck so I brought it into the incubator. Before I put it in I opened up the pip a little to make sure it is getting enough air and really keep and eye on it. I hope it can zip ok. I'll still give it about 24 hours like I would with a normal pip...but it's going to make me VERY anxious in the process...
