Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I'm in the middle of re-reading Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks (I bought the new edition because I lost my old copy). There was a story in there that described a little experiment Dave Holderread did to determine whether or not ducklings hear and imprint on your voice while they are in the shell. It turned out that they did, in fact, recognize his voice over other humans and picked him out of a group of 3 people just from his voice. Pretty cool. I'm going to start talking to my eggs (because my hubby doesn't think I'm quite crazy enough yet).

What do you all think of bobby? He looked at me, and went MAD cheeping. Hes been peeping for me ever since. Im already in love

If your that far in, I'd peep hole them soon. Just a tiny hole for air, and to buy them a bit more time.

Try to keep your room super humid, so you don't crash your humidity. Don't want the babies to shrink wrap too.

We keep trying to peel the shell away...and keep the membranes moist. Some are still showing signs of blood, and they all seem to be losing energy. None of the other eggs have pipped yet, just the wrong ended ones, so I don't know how they are doing.

morning all. nothing new here.
will set 2 clutches of eggs today both under broodys.
and im in the homestretch of bator eggs.
we are on day 18 .
so less than 10 days left.
lockdown is saturday.or sunday .
i will watch for internal pippers/ any positive changes and bump humidity acordingly.

i think its safe to say i am getting very nervous.
so far this year i have terrible luck with hatching anything myself.
so im quite anxious.
i really hope they hatch ok. i do not want to help.
and i will stick to my rule. if you can not atleast internally pip (hopefully ext. to) then i can not help you.
but if i have a baby in trouble that is willing to fight and is trying to get out and has done some of the work. then i will help.
i know some of you are against this.

im sorry but its natures way. if they are not strong enough to internally pip, i dont think they are strong enough to even make it in most cases.

Well....Twitchy's still twitching. LOL! He seems to have some more strength. I used one of those hypodermic syringes (without a needle) to give the little one some water and he's moved him self around the incubator but still doesn't have the strength to stand up just yet. He's not attached to his shell anymore but his "belly button" is still bulged out a little. It doesn't look as bad this morning though. I've got my eye on you Twitchy.

Yeah, bobby is cute.

But, I have bad news.... Bobby passed away last night... :hit :he .... I guess he wasn't strong enough to make it... I miss him :hit

DG so sorry. You did good trying to give the duckling a chance. It's still early in your season, so here is to lots of fertile duck eggs to set.

We are going into lock down again today if these geese keep pushing the way they were this morning. So by Thursday we should have new goslings again. Just in time to lockdown another round. I am trying to set eggs every 4 days while setting. This gives us a lockdown, clean up and lockdown again continuously.
