Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

DG so sorry. You did good trying to give the duckling a chance. It's still early in your season, so here is to lots of fertile duck eggs to set.
We are going into lock down again today if these geese keep pushing the way they were this morning. So by Thursday we should have new goslings again. Just in time to lockdown another round. I am trying to set eggs every 4 days while setting. This gives us a lockdown, clean up and lockdown again continuously.

Thanks celtic. I tried my best. But he kept breathing weird last night. Didnt seem right. I didnt think he was gonna make it...

Wow! Cool. What colors? I like all the colors you have.

DG sorry about Bobby

Morning everyone. I'm just irritated beyong belief.. my white "Pilgrim" gander is the one laying eggs!

Why do people say they have one thing to sell when it's really something else?!!! Just say what it is grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Ok off the soap box.

no DG I have a gander.... but instead of 1 white gander and 2 grey geese, I have 1 white goose and 2 grey ganders! no wonder they where fighting! I have 2 fertile eggs in the bator so I know that I at least have a pair, lol

Thats my guess also. I dont know... I wanted Pilgims because I think they are neat. Hubby wants goose in the freezer. Mom loves the personality these have. So I guess I'll figure someting out later. I'm just irritated that they where sold as something they'er not.

No I gettcha girl. I go by the same rule in most cases. The only time I pipped for a couple was because I had so few eggs of that breed. I think the chocolate orps was one of them, and there was another.. I can't remember. But that's normally how I roll too. "If you can't pip, I can't help you zip". :)
(hatching rule #7.)

morning all. nothing new here.
will set 2 clutches of eggs today both under broodys.
and im in the homestretch of bator eggs.
we are on day 18 .
so less than 10 days left.
lockdown is saturday.or sunday .
i will watch for internal pippers/ any positive changes and bump humidity acordingly.

i think its safe to say i am getting very nervous.
so far this year i have terrible luck with hatching anything myself.
so im quite anxious.
i really hope they hatch ok. i do not want to help.
and i will stick to my rule. if you can not atleast internally pip (hopefully ext. to) then i can not help you.
but if i have a baby in trouble that is willing to fight and is trying to get out and has done some of the work. then i will help.
i know some of you are against this.

im sorry but its natures way. if they are not strong enough to internally pip, i dont think they are strong enough to even make it in most cases.

Yeah, bobby is cute.
But, I have bad news.... Bobby passed away last night...

.... I guess he wasn't strong enough to make it... I miss him

So sorry DG. I was so afraid of that. Sometimes they just aren't strong enough. They are hard little boogers to hatch. So particular. :( Now he's in rainbow heaven swimming in the biggest lake with some of mine. :)

That's what happened with my Sebbie #2! But then I read somewhere... I think it was Pete, that said it's such a critical time when they break into the air cell, because their lungs have to learn right then how to breathe, and it is stressful on them.

He said it better than that.. but you get the idea.
