Isn't there something to put on their butts, maybe vaseline or something. My turkey keeps having this. I just keep washing it. It never seems to be a problem with the ducks.
I'm glad to see that egg. I have one similar. Maybe I'll post it too, and see what Celtic or Iain or QJ say.....
Youducks and geese and we talk about them all the time?![]()

When we first moved here several years ago, my mom brought me some fresh black australorp eggs to eat. My elder DD was 2, so I made a styrofoam cooler into an incubator with a 25 watt bulb, two thermometers, and a bunch of holes with duct tape covers I opened and closed as needed. We put all 12 eggs in, and hatched out only 4 chicks, but Ruth was so happy and proud.
I bought the (now older) hova w/fan and turners after that, and we've been using it every since. It was way more fun doing it for my own and my daughters happiness than it had been turning eggs for my mom in the big aluminum incubator.
Now I'm a hatch addict. I am powerless over the hatching urge and my life is occasionally unmanagable. Do I need a 12 step group??

well
still no change.
no noise that i can hear.
if noone ext pips within the next hours i am going to candle to make sure everyone is ok.
((no lectures!))
I ususally hatch Khakis and regular Pekings, and they aren't like quail, they come all at different times, except in very large hatches (of say 50) where many come in 24 hours. There is always a first, and a last (if your lucky) and one might have been closer to heat source, and is ready now. The ones toward the dead center can be slower. It just works that way for me. Perhaps this is the explanation.
I have some special Jumbo Pekings baking, and I'm worrying over them constantly. I really want them, and I've only 7 of 13 original eggs. Seems like every 3 or 4 days, one goes south. I don't lockdown until the 21st. My last hatch (turkeys and quail) went south after an egg blew up. As a result, I've started candling more. I've bleached, I used a new bator, I'm monitoring like every other die hard hatch addict. I think I'm gonna go have some leftover green beer.![]()
if this hatch goes bad and i dont end up with atleast 2 ducklings
i doubt ill try again.
ill leave it to the broodys.

I had to send Pocket to the Rainbow Bridge today. She was looking pretty rough, so I ran her water in the sink for a swim. But when I put her in, she just sank. Her legs had atrophied to the point that she couldn't swim. So I loved on her a bit, and then did what I had to do.![]()
I'm a little heartbroken right now, so...
RIP Pocket Duck:

They should be due sometime around the 28th, same time as my BEI's
She isn't the mama to the babies. She is a Buff Oprington and the babies are from Pekin eggs I bought. She did not like those babies being with her. She is sitting on some eggs herself.
So what can I do???SM- Looks like a ruptured air cell to me. I have quite a few EE developing that look like that.
hubby is convince i need that 12 step program, i am enjoying some yummy strawberry margarita's tonight![]()
