Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

See that pinkish dot in the middle? That's Woodie, lol. He is growing good. From what I can find, his incubation is about the same as a chickens so he should hatch around the same time as the poults. Wonder if he will grow up thinking he is a turkey. Should put him and a few poults under a broodie silkie, really confuse them all.

If only my quail would lay so I could add a few of those to hatch with them.

yay! for woodie.

Still be sure to PM me if you have more questions as I can usually get on long enough to PM back.

Sue can you email me again? Can not find the first one.

Two boxes of eggs going out today, hubby will try working half a day today, and more eggs hatching around here.

Someone asked about poopy butt. In chicks they get a warm water bath under running water then the fuzz trimmed. Adult hens sometimes also need a trim. We have a white EE who gets trimmed and a bath about every 4-6 weeks cause she just doesn't stay clean.

Dusted the entire flock of chickens this weekend, sprayed the roosts and nest too. Next week we get to deworm the entire flock. Will take all of the morning to get them all done. Oh and have a blue EE hen in the hospital pen in the brooder house. She has a mild bumble foot case, but hasn't skipped a day of laying.

Love all of the garden talk. Tomatoes are a challenge here with our heat as is lettuce, but I plant them anyways.

Going to build an arbor to set grapes on, should provide great shade when they climb across the top.

Remember that quail eggs are terrable fragile, if you can, find someone w/i an hour or two, and drive over to get the eggs, and set them that night. Fresh is good. Non shipped is good. OUt of my last 60 eggs, only 4 hatched - shipped eggs are like that with quail. Thats the most important part to success, and of course, keeping the temp just right (they bake easy they are so small) and the humidiy around 60. IF they loose too much moisture, there will be nothing but an empty egg.

Thank you for this great advice. I think we can find them somewhere close. We have done all the things you have listed: baked eggs, hollow eggs, not fertile. We recently bought a new incubator and are doing our first batch of chicken/ducks in it. So maybe quail later in the summer. Thanks again. Tracy

morning update. both babies are still fighting. and i will fight with tthem as long as they will.
both are sshrink wrapped (just my luck)
so i will slowly work my way down their shell.
stopping when i see blood.
ducky #1 is wanting out so bad. when he hears me he starts peeping for help and i think everytime i help him its gives him new hope to keep fighting.
the other duck does not make a sound just tries to make progress. i almost have his head free, the way his membrane is as long as these veins recede enough just a little slip and his head will b free. he looks like a magpie i think. they prolly oth will be they have the same color beak..as for the other eggs. .no change. no dipped air cells. can still c veins so maybe i have late bloomers. but im not holding my breath on them.

CG, I'm glued to this thread to find out what happens with your babies!!!

Slink, great news about your mallard.

Julie, that is so crazy about your mystery egg. I really hope it hatches so we can find out what it is!

On day 23 here with my duck eggs. Air cells are starting to dip, and eggs are rocking as babies turn inside. I am excited to hatch new babies. Too bad I have to wait another 12 days until my next goose hatch date.

And for my new eggs, this morning I did see a formed spider in one of the Toulouse eggs that got stuck in usps for 8 days. Amazing! Even more amazing is how perfect all 6 Cayuga eggs on day 5 look with their intact air cells and clear defined spiders. I really recommend this seller for Cayuga, magpie, or large pekin hatching eggs!!

i am getting ready to help a little more as long as the blood has receeded slightly
i barely slept lastnight
but their soft peeping is keeping me going .

per celtics advice i am also about to give a small dose of save a chick to both babies.

i am going to wait another 15-20 minutes.
grandpaa is in the kitchen and he will ask wayyy too many questions.

and both membranes still look like they have quite a bit of blood.
