CG, Congrats!!!

They are fine for a good 24 hours in bator. However, I usually remove babies after they have a good long rest then get their legs under them, so to speak. Sometimes as soon as 2 hours... others as long as 24 hours. For those harder to get started, I offer vitamin/sugar water in bator after a few hours.

ok i will leave them with water in the am.
and take them out when i get home from class.

All the ducklings, including my oldest have been very quiet until they start quacking. Then they were really noisy for a week until the novelty wore off. I love my blue girl, I think yours are going to be beautiful when they feather in.

I do too, it also would be good if all mine decide Quacking is not needed all the time. Bye the way names are Sapphire and Turquoise and they will be with Gem and his girl Black Pearl both Cayuga

oh well i know they can do the rest on their own hopefully.

they both look grey. i can see eyestripes. but maybe they are just magpie with weird markings.

they are soo adorable.
i love them..

Go babies, go!

I stayed up late last night too. Slept in and made DD about 20 minutes late for school.
hide.gif
Now I keep going outside to check on everyone every 10 minutes. I left everyone out so they could mingle. Little magpie occasionally chases the big ducks to either try to eat them or make friends but mostly they just follow the goslings. Need to remember they are calls and if I wait until I think they are big enough to be let out they will spend their whole life in the brooder.

Last hatch, I finally fell asleep on the couch. Hubby went out and assisted a hatch while I slept. When I woke at 4am and went up there, there were new babies in the incubator. To my fuzzy half-awake mind, this made no sense for a minute or two. My hands-off hubby has gotten really into hatching!

Good morning everyone! I spent the night in my office last night to be close to my duck eggs. My hubby thinks I'm pretty silly right about now:) My little mallard baby was working all night long scratching and pecking at his shell. He peeped at me a few times in the middle of the night! He has not broken through but is working very hard and consistently. I am hoping to see a happy and health duckling today!

Another no-sleep hatch. I'm going to be in trouble when my next batch goes to lockdown. I had aimed for a Thursday hatch because that's my weekday off, but I'm starting to think my math is off and they could start pipping as early as Easter. My last batch was a day early, so I'm in for it.

We are hatching our first pekin/buff mix! Still waiting,
pop.gif
all the little chickens are hatching now too!

Go little ducks and chickies!

so i have a question.
both babies have their eyes closed.
is this normal?
they are both very active. wiggling, and going thru peeping spurts.
could their eyes be dried shut from the membrane?
If their eyes are dried shut, a wet q-tip will help. I've helped open a few eyes recently.

bought two last week.

My new bator should arrive tomorrow! If it comes to needing a third, I'm going to need an intervention first!

It is nowing here right now !!!! REALLY!
This is very very weird weather for us WA peeps.
barnie.gif

I LOVE growing my org tomatoes! That is the one thing I plant that I carefully cultivate!
My prize tomatoe is the Giant Belgium! But I do like the Mortgage Lifter, and The Cherokee!
I want to garden so bad ~ IF the weather will ever permit ... Ah Spring where are you
hit.gif

I'm done with this weird weather. I've never tried Giant Belgium. I got a couple decent Cherokee Purples last year, but this year all tomatoes are going to be in hoophouses... that is, if I haven't already loaded hubby up with too many projects...

Have you started your seedlings yet?

Rhubarb & asparagus are on my 2 do list this spring. Is it to late to plant?

Crowns or seed? I have Rhubarb seed from a seed trade and I hear it'll take a good ten years to be harvestable. I planted both asparagus crowns and starts from seed last year, so I should be able to get a light harvest from half the bed this season. :)

I think mine went in the ground in May...

Thats funny that you have probs growing tomatoes because of TO much sun, where on the complete other side of the states here in WA we have trouble in my area for NOT getting enough sun
lau.gif

Amen! But those southern states can get two round of tomatoes if planned right. *envious*

I would greatly appreciate anyone's help.... I purchased a Little Giant incubator and egg turner and have filled it with our duck's eggs starting 2/27/12. I did not realize you could hold the eggs and put them in all together so these have gone in every day. We have candled some and removed the non fertile ones.

The first ones should be removed from the egg turning this Friday 3/25 and some each day if I do the suggested 25 days. Can I make this work with one incubator by possibly removing some of the rows of egg turners or should I go buy a hatching incubator? And can I stabilize the humidity with opening the incubator during hatching if I only use one incubator? My kids are hatching these and we have had enough trauma from predators with our adult ducks that I don't want to have a lot of them not make it.

Thanks!

I don't know about the LG, but I took rails off my hovabator turner for a staggered hatch and it worked pretty well. But then I put it back together wrong and had a bit of frustration...

My quail eggs are hatching :D

So They all are in LD ~ I have candled & they all look good! But they are some DARK DARK eggs

I want some BLUE BLUE BLUE !
Please peeps I need some blue vibes !

Actually I want an awesome hatch more, but I really want blue. Did I say Blue
lau.gif

I want some Marans hatching eggs. My boss is having fun with me having fun incubating. I've got enablers everywhere. Trying to figure out where to find enough broodies to put 22 ducklings under in the near future...

LOL! I assume that question is meant for me? I bought 4 buff dewlap toulouse eggs last week from a seller in central California with beautiful stock. She gave me a special deal after I talked to her for a while. $105 including shipping. I received them in exactly 48 hours. Excellent packaging! Dates laid are 3/13 and 3/14.
fl.gif
they develop!

Those dewlap toulouse eggs are so expensive! I had sticker shock the first time I saw some for sale! My bank account can't take that risk factor. Good luck to you!!!
fl.gif

Last night we FEASTED on .......

Guineas & Rabbit !!

OUR family has never eaten rabbit SO we Put it on the Barbie & Slow Smoked it, Seasoned it & was A HUGE hit!!! My kids devoured it, as well as my hubby & I
It would have went great with Asparagus on the grill or Some IA Corn on the cob!

I've never had rabbit, but hubs used to hunt them as a kid. Are they worth the effort?

droolin.gif
I haven't tried rabbit. If hubby's bunny goes psycho one more time though....

Quackrrs, your eggs are now in the mail! Should be there wednesday!

Awesome! I'm going to have another full bator at this rate. Boss is working a trade for some WH hatching eggs. Aiming to have stock from two sources.
wink.png

lau.gif
I suppose it could go that way if not careful! Beer sexing=drink some beer and sit back and wait for them to crow or lay an egg.

So my marans are all done hatching! I got 5 our of 7 to hatch the other two died before internal pipping. I also hatched tons of splash bantam cochins......
hide.gif
I've already got so many in the brooder, but the more I hatch the more picky I can be when it comes time to choose keepers. Not keeping anything that isn't show quality.

Getting ready to collect up some more Ancona duck eggs to set..... Unless I get some more egg orders for them
wink.png
I've only got 5 in the grow out pen right now and they are starting to get big, so it's time to hatch out some more ducklings.

Got a few sets of Penciled Runners going in the bator soon and another set that has been in there for a week or so.

Here is what I have in my incubator right now:
True Ameraucana eggs (blue and splash)
Olive Egger eggs (blue cuckoo)
Bantam Cochin eggs (blue, splash, and blue mottled)
Wheaten Marans eggs (2nd set of shipped eggs from bad ebay seller so probably won't have any hatch)
Indian Runner eggs (penciled)
Thats all that is in my small incubator..... I've got to get my big incubator cleaned out from the hatch (I've got a few chicks still fluffin up in there) and then I'll set some more duck eggs in it.

I'm looking forward to my penciled runner eggs that hubby bought for me!
celebrate.gif
Thanks again, BTW!
