Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Very cute Iain, my African Gander will mock charge and when you look at him he lifts his head high and pretends to look at the sky.
We have an internal pipper and a second wrong way pipped in a week. The first came out with no issues, so not stressing over the next. Have the pip hole open and nares clear. Will be a 4 day hatch for it since it can't turn well facing the wrong way. More to lock down this weekend, so hoping no more wrong ways.

I have seen what I think is the gander act like that with my hubby. But the goose today was not bluffing. We had to go through a repeated display of who can make who move away from the goslings before this goose realized I was dead serious about not backing away if it was lunging and hissing at me!

Glad to hear your wrong end pipper made it. I still wish I knew why there always seems to be at least one in every hatch that way lately.

he can move his leg.
to me it feels fine and moves fine.
its like it just wont cooperate.
if he sits still you can position the leg under him. and he can move like that for a little. then he will lean back sideways and the leg goes back weird.

I wonder if he has a slipped tendon? I have never had that happen and don't know what it looks like. Might be worth doing a search to see what you can find out about it to see if that might be the problem here.

I only got one from Erins eggs. Today is day 10, and I candled throughly, and there was nada in three. I broke them open, to check, and the one I thought started and stopped was clean. So I PMd her today, and am getting 2 new fresh eggs shipped. (If I'm gonna have 1, I want a pair darn it!) I'm buying them, but I very specifically asked for 2 fresh laid and double wrapped, and brought straight to the post office.

Cross your fingers I'll get one more.

I'm getting buff dewlap eggs shipped the monday after Easter. Then, it will be time for me to sit my own duck eggs for awhiile. (Probobly about 100 or so this year - I want 30 and 30 of Khaki and pekings, I need about 10-15 new females to replace those turning 4-5 this year.) The rest I'm selling to a guy who's allready in line for about 35 of either/or both. He wants to sell eggs at the Lawrence farmers market.

Iain, I'm happy the Dewlaps are looking good. Three ought to make a pair, if they finsih out for you.

Hubby wouldnt shut up until I had some researved. I didn't realize she had dewlap buff, gray, or African. She wanted to know which I wanted, and when I explained about people coming around to gawk, she thought maybe the buffs too. (I was tempted by the grays though, but buffs look cooler) I definatley DID NOT want an African. But they would be pretty cool out in a field. Far away. Just for looks.

I just went outside to lock everyone up. Ducklings and goslings did not make it to the coop on their own again. After 20 minutes of looking for them I found them all laying next to the back door. Guessing it got dark so they just headed to the light. They followed me and my flashlight halfway back, then once we got through the gate to their yard they took off running ahead of me. So I think they know where to go, and I need to install some solar lights by the gate and door to the coop for them.

i will do a search on it tomarrow.
as well as letting him swim tomarrow to see if he can function i normal in water.
i really hope he makes it thru the night. but im not holding my breath on it.

Marty, that is odd, since my got lost for so long, and I still have better development? Hm.. Hope she throw in a couple extras for you!

I think the dewlap purchase is a safe bet. I think the timing will work with me getting my other dewlap set too!

And by the way, I am still waiting to see why the Africans have a bad rap. All my babies are sweet and #1 and eBay are both very bonded to me. They act like puppy dogs. Poor #1 had a fit if I left the pen, and made sure to lay on my foot when I stood in the pen.

Julie, that is cute about yours needing a light to find the way to their home at night. I think my babies prefer us not turning off lights at night. They act scared of the dark.
