Send your kids out to collect worms while its raining and they are hanging out on sidewalks and stuff. Just put them in a box with dirt and shredded paper on top. I actually mix dirt and peat moss here, cause you know how clay soil is.

You should google mealworms, and raise them instead. Fast, easy, neat. Buy woms at a bate shop if you need to. At least its only for 3 weeks before he'll be out like his folks, getting his own lunch.

It says their natural diet is earthworms, so I want to feed him mostly those. Mealworms are a lot of fat and not very healthy for most lizards except as treats, although I want to start raising those for quail treats. My kiddie pool with a hole got filled with peat moss for the chickens to play in, and hubby threw a ton of nightcrawlers in there he'd caught when he didn't end up going fishing. I need to go check on them, they are in a nice shady spot. If there are still some in there I'll cover it with newspaper, the chickens can find their own dirt bath spot.

Thank you. I definately will. We had such a great experience with our 1st set of chicks last year that I am almost waiting for the other shoe to drop with my little ducklings. We somehow made it through with all 10 chickens being happy and healthy. We just got our first two eggs from one of our Americanas Monday and today. We are definatley lucky.

Got quail. No eggs though.

Maybe I should check for some cheap buy it now buttons on ebay that could ship tomorrow.

I don't want buttons though. Maybe I'll get lucky and my girls will lay me an egg or 2 tomorrow.

That would be perfect, anything close in size for such a short time ought to do it. Go look around, maybe you can find another woodcock egg!!! You have me wanting to find some now.

How weird. Right after posting this I went to check on my 2 baby (youngest is 5-6 weeks, the other 3 weeks older so not babies really) quail I have inside. There was a little pullet egg in there! Problem is, even if she lays a regular egg tomorrow I don't know if they are a pair or 2 hens. Haven't seen them doing any hanky panky, and haven't heard a crow, hatch a lot of girls, so I think they may both be girls. If I put them in the big cage the quail in there won't lay for another 2-3 weeks and they won't lay for 2-3 weeks either.
