Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Good morning,

Thanks for the fun reading last night! Too much to comment on....

CG, hopefully if your ducky is not going to make, he will pass on his own. I'm sorry. :(

Dutch, I know a dewlap seller, but her eggs are $25 a piece, plus shipping.... dewlap eggs are not cheap!

Sue, you really do have hatching geese down!! You go woman!! :)

Celtic, how's your hubby doing? And... of course, almost as important... (almost)... how are the toulouse babies doing?? ;)

Julie, there is a listing in my local online classifieds for quail hatching eggs by a licensed hatchery. Shipping available. I can find the link for you, if you want.

Marty, how are your pekin babies doing?? My pidgey eggs have not internally pipped, but it looks like the fluid is resolving a touch. I still have serious doubts these eggs will hatch. My ancona eggs are whacking at the shells... you can hear the shell getting hit hard and a couple of times hubby and I distinctly heard that sweet shell cracking sound... but I do not see any raised dimples yet. I'm a little surprised, but not worried. It is only day 26. Perhaps my cooling routine with this set has added the 1/2 day to schedule.... which would be a more normal 28 day schedule. My day 22 ancona eggs are rocking and I'm seeing the air cells dip. Both bators are coming alive! It is so cool!

Ugh! I think I may have my first lockdown fatality. My humidity had spiked so I took it as an opportunity to give eggs 1-4 a quick candle. I can see the duckies fully moved into aircell in eggs 1, 2, & 4 and their beaks are right at external pip location. But I see nothing in egg 3's aircell... and it was right there bouncing around with the others yesterday. The weight is in pointy end too... so I'm thinking it is positioned backwards. I didn't want to keep lid open for too long, so I did not check eggs 5-8.

Which reminds me... in one of my new cayuga eggs (day 8), the spider and veining disappeared overnight. There is no blood ring or streaks. I do see fertility ring, but it looks like it never came to life. WTH?

Morning all.

Yesterday was weird email day around here. Had two "customer" emails asking about buying eggs and ducklings.

The duckling email was someone wanting to pick up ducklings. So let them know what we had just hatched, price, and when they could pick up. They responded wanting to know of there was a return policy incase they didn't work out, and if we would replace dead ducklings. Both struck me as odd, but responded we will accept returns and we do not replace animals because once off the property we do not know how they are cared for. Never had another email.

The hatching egg email asked when we could ship. So I responded with what breeds were avai
Able, and how many could be shipped and when. They ask of we will replace eggs for them until they get enough to hatch. So I tell them shipping hatching eggs is risky, how waterfowl in general are quirky to hatch and we ship extras when available to help cover losses in shipping. They then insisted we must replace any egg that doesn't hatch so they can have X number of ducks. I explained I can't do that, but could hatch for them and ship X number of live ducklings. I got told we were trying to screw them over by not replacing all unhatched eggs. I also was told we were a scam for not posting our address on the farms site. Uumm no, as long as my husbands active duty I can not legally post our address, as it's against OPSEC. I place it on all outgoing boxes. I will give it privately for payments, but can't publish it.

CG sorry about the third duckling, totally understand how you are feeling.

Iain, you goose hatching fool. Hubby is doing OK, long recovery to get stamina and speech back.

Wrong way goose and the right way internally pipped are going strong. Should have atleast one hatched by tomorrow.

My ducks went on lockdown last night, on day 25, but I didn't candle them. I may peek at them later. No sounds yet, but I take that as a good sign that they are closer to on time than the last hatch (UNO, the early turkey). I've resoved thermometer issues (bought several new ones, calibrated them all, and have double checked them against one another repeatedly). Got the sauna at 65 -75% humidity. Hope to hear something soon.

I hope you get some pidgey eggs hatched, and happy to hear of the anconas enthusiasm.

Yeah for hatch days approach!

Morning All!

Celtic, got a secret shopper situation on your hands? Hmm.... Understood about your hubby.... it is like I mentioned to you in a pm, it took a long time for my colleague to develop coherent thoughts and then articulate clearly them in speech. But you'd never know what he went through to see him now. He is one of the best criminal defense trial lawyers I know (and I'm a tough critic!)

I may be a goose hatching eggs purchaser fiend/fool, perhaps...yet so far, only 4 goslings have hatched, and it is only a matter of a few weeks before my africans are lost to me forever. :( When the sun rose this morning, I could see my pair sleeping under brooder window as if they had been there all night. They are absolutely beside themselves to be separated from the babies. And judging how freakin' mean and aggressive and nasty they were with me yesterday around the goslings, I'm pretty sure they won't let me near them once they are turned over to their care.

I'm putting all my hopes in having pet geese babies in my toulouse eggs... only 8-9 days to go!

Oh CG, I'm so sorry hes fading. I'm afriad he may be in the 30% that settles the matter differently. I know your disappointed, and its too bad its like this. I'm happy to hear the other babies are active.

the duckling is worse today.
its like hes fading, or doesnt want to live anymore.
he wont use his bad leg now. barely tries to move.
and the other 2 brats were picking on him bcuz his bad leg just twitches. like it has nerve damage or sumthin.
i put him in a yougart cup to keep him safe from them, and under the heat lamp.

is it bad to wish he had passed on in the night ?

bcuz i kinda do .
i hate seeing him like this, bcuz i cant fix it.

Celtic

Glad to hear the two goosies are progressing. Go babies, go!

Glad to hear things are progressing with DH as well. Hugs to both of you, and many more wishes for a speedy recovery.

I guess you should just be glad you don't have to sell to those people, they sound like trouble the whole way around. They must be bad eggs.

Have a great day! Say, how was the pineapple upside down cake? We're getting receipes togather for Cocoa.....

Yeah the emails were just odd to say the least.

From the sounds of things on your end, I would agree the adults will be more than happy when the goslings join them. Hopefully the babies will still want to come see you too.

That's funny, lol. I'm a little done with ganders of any kind at the moment...just about giving me nightmares

I'd love to have a pair of dewlaps, though
My mom was totally fightened of geese from getting bit as a child... BUT will go in the pen with these guys and babies them

I know what you mean CG. I've had a few I wish would just go silently on their own. Poor little ducky.

That's really odd. Any way they could have come from the same person?
