Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

That's what I thought about the 25 days but I may have misunderstood someone else. I can definitely pick up the drawer liner... I thought the wire looked like it might hurt their feet. You may have missed my earlier posts, I mistakenly have been putting my eggs in almost daily as my ducks laid them.

One thing I still do not understand is that I when I candle my eggs, there is space at the bottom and I can see large veins and things moving like the duck. The entire egg is not dark except for the air sack. Is it normal for there to be space at the bottom and to be able to see the large veins, etc. These would be duck eggs 19-22 days old from pekings, snowie mallard, buff and cayuga.

Thanks!

Ah, I get what you mean about the space. I thought you meant the air cell - silly me. What you are seeing sounds totally normal. At 19-22 days you should still be seeing some space with only veins in it. The veins may look kinda irregular and thicker/chunkier in spots. The duckling will gradually fill up eveything except the air cell. Much closer to the hatch day you will just see a dark area (the duckling) and a light area (the air cell) and no other gap.

Good luck!!

Hi all.

Love the baby "king of the couch" pic! He's so cute.

One of my little ducks appears to have internally pipped. All of good Air cells, except the one w/the worst wonky cell, but all are looking basically viable.

I hiope to see some real progress tomarrow.

Feeling a little under-the-weather. so I'll see you all tomarrow.

The ducklings and goslings made it home all by themselves today. My turkey didn't. She has gone broody I guess, I found her in the back corner of an old shed where she's been laying her eggs. Guess now I need to figure out how to break a turkey broody, let her sit on her eggs until she figures out they are duds, or give her a few out of the incubator. I want to give her babies and let her hatch some, but turkeys don't make the most trustworthy mothers and poults are so sweet I'm really kind of looking forward to brooding these guys. Want to talk about babies that act like puppies, the poults I've had put even goslings to shame in that department.

Ok a few pictures before I head off to bed. I have Pekins, Runners and BEIs that are internally pipping tonight. I turned the fan off in my hovabator as I am going to use it as a hatcher now instead of the LG, which I think is demonized. Heres some pics of the new Breda, the Crelo, some Araucanas, the baby Pekins and a few of the babysitters, the Silkies

Here is Tut, the Breda
