OH no!! That's awful!! I just had a Golden Retriever mishap 3 nights ago too! Only mine ended well. Thank goodness. Mine just wanted to play.. yours was apparently hungry..? Wow. I had the same attitude as you though. It wasn't my dogs fault. It was mine.

Sorry Utah! I just thad the same thing with my marans, I had 4 start pipping a day early, and in the morning I was expecting to see their fluffy butts, but They hadn't so I pipped their air cell & 2 were still alive & 2 were not. It made feel

& these were my Marans, then I had a horrible mishap.

My Golden Reriever got in my brooding room, DON'T know how it happened, but she ate all my day old Marans. They were in with my Silkie, the silkie was fine, but there was nothing in there with my silkie. She was the only one in the house alone for like 10 minutes, when I came in from outside I saw her coming down the stairs.... Had a weird feeling so I rushed up stairs.... I could have beat her

But it was not her fault it was mine. I now have latches on my lids so they just don't rest on top. A simple step I should have done from the start, but I overlooked. I mean they are raised from the ground & 2 feet more high on top of it. So she really had to "work" at it. All my other brooders were not touched so to speak being that they all had babies in it. This happpened 2 days ago.

So I am now ordering another 2 dozen, to get my blues.

Utah: I feel ya on the almost zipper. Remeber that one I just had last hatch? Started zipping so I left it thinking I'd have a baby in the morning. Came back in the morning and it was almost completely zipped.. all but an inch like yours.. no movement. nothing. Candled and couldn't see a thing.

That's the one you guys wanted me to peek into.. but I just couldn't do it. Bad feeling about it. And it wouldn't have changed the fact that its dead. I was bummed about that one. But then I wonder, because the egg shape was more round than oblong. The other egg that was round yielded me a duckie runt that isn't growing. So maybe.. for the best.

I still think about that though and wonder what happened.

Geez, may I please have a do-over for today??!?!?!

After waking up to dead babies, I run to town for a dr's appt. When I drove back up my street towards home, I see my horses running down street at me! So, I grabbed a bowl of treats... and like good children, they all ran up to me and followed me back to their pasture. I walk back inside, dispose of dead babies, wondering WTH would make my horses bust through the gate to run away.... when I see a brush fire creeping fast in my pasture!! Some freaking IDIOT neighbor grandpa told his grandkids to do a "controlled burn" of his pasture (next to mine) along MY fence line... in 30+ MPH winds going straight into my pasture!!

So just spent the last 1.5 hours dealing with fire department, cops, and stupid idiot neighbors.

JZ, that is so awful about your Marans chicks How horrible. You poor thing.

Sbost, I tend to candle every 5 days. But not at all in the last 3 days (unless there seems to be a problem with an egg and I want to see what's going on).

CG, I think you have the first ducklings in history to have imprinted on a yoghurt container.
