Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

question about sexing silver apples. My silver apple baby has a black topped beak, like an Ancona, and a dark striped head. Is it a boy or girl?

k. I guess I will just have to see what my feed store has and hopefully more people can chime in just in case they don't carry the purina start and gro.

Eyeheart, I have been using purina non medicated start and gro, which is 18%, and my ducks and geese have done well on that. I was told mazuri was the gold standard of feed, so I had my feed store special order it. I had hubby pick it up yesterday, but have not checked out food label yet.

20% can be fed, but should not for their entire life as it will lead to angel wing deformatees easier. 20% until 4-5 weeks then transition to grower feed until 8-9 weeks old then onto adult feed.

We feed Mazuri to all of our waterfowl. They make a starter, grower , layer and maintenance. It is wonderful feed, little no waste, less is more when feeding and their feathering is amazing on it.

Iain, SA are not gender ID'd at hatch by bill or head color. Males and females can look alike. Some can and will hatch dark phased (looking like a Rouen) also. Vent sexing, or waiting for them to feather in with adult colors and or the quack test.
