Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

No. Hold out for your 10 bucks GF. Excuses are fine though. They are people you wouldn't want to sell them too anyway.

I gotta find this stuff. TSC doesn't have that here.

Actually, maybe Julie knows where I can get some. She's the feed girl.

HEY JULIE!!!! we need good food for our critters!!!!

It's not the greatest pic, because I'm too tired to take more than one. But here are the first 7 babies in the brooder. All arms and legs seems to be facing the right way, and they are eating and drinking well.

I have a internal pip! Yeah! Bator is shut for good now!

Wow Iain those babies are unbelievable. And very lucky!!!!

I need some quick input if someone has a minute... my next two eggs pipped externally this AM and broke through around 10am. These are the same ones that have the yellow discoloration and some darkening in the air sack area possibly from the other hatch's liquids. The chirping and movement has slowed down this afternoon, and they are due on 3/28. But this is my first time hatching... I really don't want to intervene, just looking for some reassurance this looks normal. My humidity has been in the high 80s and I only added a little water this am and have not changed the towels since the hatch two days ago. There is condensation on some of the window glass. I am a little worried my humidity is too high? Thanks! (the yellow dot is highlighter)

Looks normal to me. Go little duckies! Now for the infernal waiting....

1 External PIP!!!! YEAH!!!!! WhooHoo!!! Its a boy though :(

How can you tell? Are they sexlinked?

Both pippers have hatched. The other egg under the broody has pipped, nothing from the other eggs in the incubator yet. They are so cute with their little beards.

Probobly. They do come out looking like they've been playing football for 3 days sometimes, poor babies. I would just give him a bit more time. If he's not better in 10 days, you may have to ask yourself if you want a funny duck, a duck dinner, or are prepared to cull. (I cull by eating them later, if they live) BUT, he will probobly at least improve measurably.

I've never seen crossbeak in a duck. If it can eat, it can live. It will either get better or worse and if it gets worse, then's the time for decision-making.

I had to cull a chicken today at work. That sucked, but it wasn't as hard as having to cull a duckling.

Question about angel wing... What do you use to wrap wings? Do you wrap entire body or just wing. My feed store was sold out of the 18% grower, and insisted the 20% flock raiser was ok for them. But in the last couple of days, our month old drake has developed angel wing on one side. I have them back on the 18% grower, and just got a bag of mazuri feed (although I have not read nutrition label on it yet, so don't know protein level). Any specific diet recommendations or supplements for an angel wing duck?

I used the Flock raiser for 6 weeks with my first set of ducklings. Then I find out that it's 3 weeks with the 20%, 3 weeks with the 18% and then go to 16%. At least that's the latest "wisdom" I've heard.

I feed my adults 16% all-purpose, forage and occasionally oats.

Who's the duck nutritionist here?

will 20% flockraiser their entire lives not be sufficient? I assumed it was. I also would like to know what to look for in nutrition for my future duckies.

20% is too high protein for grown birds, from what I can tell. We do 16% for adults both here and at the farm.

Quote: Yep, the bill color. Boys have blackish blue bills, girls have pinkish cream. Its blue :(

Oh, and someone is coming to get my 3 mix bred ducks, they will probably back out to, just like everyone else does "oh, they cost to much for me" ($10 for 3 ducks, is that a bad price?) "oh, i live to far away" (10 miles!) Oh, my fence ins't done yet (OK, thats a good exuse)

I hate it when people back out!
