Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I may have figured out why duck hatches are early, but my goose hatches are on time, but it was too late to slow it down with these guys...although the other 3 cayuga eggs look more on time.

So.. These dewlaps and erin's toulouse eggs will be my last purchase. I swear it!! Shipping out Saturday for Monday delivery.

hey id rather have early hatchers than difficult ones.. lol.
im watching the eggs under the chickens like a hawk.
i plan to candle tomarrow night 2.
i will not loose a baby simply bcuz it could get thru the shell.
they will quickly be brought into the bator if i suspect any issues.

and as far as the duck thing goes.
i have never eaten duck. but seriously people dont really realize where their meat comes from.
we raise our own beef.
we get 2-3 calves a year (usualy under 6 days old)
we bucket feed them and butcher in december,
very rarely to i form any kind of an attachment to them,
yes they are cute, but they are darn tasty to. much better than store meat.

we tried to raise our own chickens for meat once, didnt go so well. they were not so yummy lol.
and i would LOVE to eat these anoying guineas. which btw when they start laying , if any of you would like some eggs (we have lavendar and pearls.)
or if you guys would like some bantam cochin eggs, just let me know.
i will soon have silkies 2 (hopefully) which i will hatch some of their eggs lol.

im thinking about asking the neighbor for some quail eggs just to get the experience of hatching them.
and still waiting on goose eggs from grandpas.

This is celtic's theory. I have my goose and duck eggs in one bator and raised duck eggs to goose level. But goose eggs are more porous and heat is getting through duck eggs more easily. So i lowered duck eggs to floor a few days ago.

And yes, assuming I hatch my cayugas in a few days, I am done buying eggs. Time for the next stage... Growing out all my many babies!
