Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Like I said.. I have no clue about turkey... or chickens... or quail... or anything except ducks and geese.

Jaz, I figured between the cayugas' mellow personality and the size that these toulouse hatch out at, I should be good. The whole point of us having toulouse and dewlaps is that they are supposed to get along well with ducks.

Speaking of cayugas... I am not liking that 2 are not dipping like the other 3. So help me if these babies are turned backwards, I will scream!

When is there hatch day?

My 2 adult Cayugas accepted my baby anconas & my baby Embden fine. There was no issues. I guess thats why I love them sooooo much.
They remind me of very pregnant waddling women !

Today is day 24. I have 5 eggs. One internally pipped about 2 hours ago. Two look to internally pip sometime today. Then there are two with barely dipped air cells, but have a lot of movement.

I do prefer the cayuga personality over the ancona, although this new hatch seem calmer so far than my older ones. Their stock is also way less runner looking too.

FYI, In my prior sets... they internal pip on day 25, except last time I had one that internal pipped on day 24. Whenever I have seen this little dip and no shadows on back of aircell at day 24, they have been positioned wrong.

If it is pipped just enough for the beak, then I would leave it. But thats me. When they actually start making the whole go round & they stop I help out.

I'll leave it then for now. it's still moving around quite a but and active so I'm not that worried yet. They seem to zip pretty fast once they actually get a good start on it.

ok, blue girls are a no go... baby is totally afraid of those big ducks
