Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

A ruptured yolk sac looks like raw yolk. Not cottage cheesy. At least that's how it looked when I saw one in my incubator.

Still, the yolk sounds like the most likely candidate if you are seeing a lot of yellowish wettish stuff.

Icky-stuff guy doesn't sound too good :-(

Backwards pipping can often end well - don't rush in to help that one.

Could a baby possibly poop meconium in the shell? It looks more like bird poo to me than anything. Either way, baby has eyes open and peeps from time to time but seems exhausted (as I am).

Backwards guy has just a tiny hole and I've pushed back the membrane enough so it can breathe. Going to stay pretty hands-off with that one for a while.

I'm going up one last time and then I really have to go to bed. Starting to get a little dumb, which means I need to sleep!

The first BEI popped out a minute ago. It's still got the swollen bellybutton, so it's in the tupperware hospital in the brooder for the night. The one with the ick in the shell is spending the night in a tupperware in the hatcher.

Now for bed. Got to get my four and a half hours in before I drag myself to work.

I've got one that's totally ready to come out. The BEI's aren't due till Wednesday (along with the goosies). I'm worried about backwards pipper and icky-stuff-in-the-shell guy.

What does a ruptured yolk sac look like, kinda like yellowy bird-poop-cottage-cheese-curd-gunk?
didnt you say they were on day 26? BEI are bantams. they take 25 days.. dont they?

well i have good and bad news.
ICu baby #2 is all better. dried off, up on her feet and moving around. so she was moved to the brooder.
on the other hand babies #1 & 3 died in the night.
and as for flippy, he is fading fast. hoping he passes on his own.

Quote: I'm okay with the fact that she's small. She's a runt. I'll get her fattened up real good and she'll be fine. ;) We were trying to think of names today.

ETA: Maybe we should name her Deca.. for your city. LOL.
More like for our little dot on the map LOL! No city.... Barley a town lol.

CG, glad baby #2 made it!!

Quackers, I had the yellow fluid gunk come out of the eggs I just opened up... looks like they did not lose enough fluid during cooking. Which is weird, because they cooked with my goose eggs, which have all lost ideal weight of 16%.

didnt sleep well lastnight.
but im gearing up for hatch #2.
14 eggs (as far as i know so far) are due to hatch.
i will check at dark to see who has air cells dropping and what not.

ok opinions. i
had such bad luck with shrink wrap on sundays hatch.
which means i will probably have it this hatch 2.

do i A. just bring all the eggs into the bator now.
B. bring them in as the int/ext pip.
C. just let them go until they need help (which means i have to constantly disturb 2 unhappy hens)

Qj! My magpie is laying! Her eggs are fertile too! Do you want some when you come up here?...... I mean down! I have one so far! They aren't live birds! (yet) you can take them!..... You will! Lol

What's crazy is that it's a wide-spread issue...not just in one area of the country. My chicks hatched 4 days early, and had to be helped. I've never had so many quit during incubation, and then theres the shrink wrapping, and backwards babies....think I'm going to end up bald before all is said and done.

I know!! And it's not like even all one area, like the midwest, or the east coast. It's so weird.

2 of 5 eggs are backwards... One of which was pretty twisted up. The other 3 are in proper position, but drowning in fluid. I find that very weird since they cooked in fairly low humidity with my goose eggs and my goose eggs have lost close to 16% weight. All had mild shrink-wrap but I locked them down a day early.

same here with that goose from yesterday. Fluid. And backwards, and my humidity I ran at 30-40%. Bringing it up slowly the last 3 days to 50 and then lockdown bringing it up to 60. I never even got the chance to bring it up more because it died. It's so weird.

I'm so confused as to why I had at least two ducklings drown in fluid (not shipped) and yet I'm getting shrink wrap at the same time?

The air cells dipped as expected, everything looked on par. Candled the day before lockdown. Now I think 60% of the runner eggs are dead (2 were for sure). The fact that I have 2 BEI's pipped was a complete shock, I thought they were toast along with the rest. Hopefully my buyers are understanding.

OMG! It's everybody's eggs! Something is going on. That sucks! :(

Oh, another thing QJ! I will have ducklings hatching, or hatched once you come! They go into lockdown on thursday! Hehehehe...
