Going to make cubby holes in my chicken coop for just that reason....snake proof ones!

thats good. im hoping next year to get something worked out for my girls 2.
we have an old fashoned nest box in the coop. it has 6 cubbys. 3 on bottom 3 on top.
the chickens only use the bottom 3.
so everyone else gets a little testy when broodys are sittin.

oh and for the first time every i have a baby sooo eager and fiesty that the egg is rocking.

maybe he will hatch all by himself.
humidity is up at 77-78%
so far soo good =)

these guys are wokin fast 2. when i turned and candled at 10 am i had no int pips.
at 1 pm i had 3 int pips

IKR!? I've never had a problem til now. I did sell one of my Saxony drakes though. So that's good. These duckys will go with me to the big swap in 2 weeks.
Sounds good.
So do you have anything in the bator now?
I know. I gave up and sold my ducklings for $2 each, just because I needed the room and the person that was buying them bought all of them. Right after I sold them I had a billion people email for ducklings.

OK, heres my idea! I have 2 brooders, and 2 lamps. And 10 ducklings, and 4 goslings.

Brooder #1: 1 pair of goslings, 4 WH ducklings, and 1 appleyard duckling.

Brooder #2: 1 pair of goslings, 2 silkie ducklings, 2 WH ducklings, and 1 runner.

Thats for at night. Ducklings are outside during the day, cause they are so freaking big! Goslings wont go out in the play pen till they are at leased 2, 3 weeks old....

So tell me about your goslings guys! I'm so excited for mine, I can't even begin! Do any of you have some pics you can post? Baby geese are so darn cute!!
I think i'd just put the goslings in one and ducklings in another, especially if they are spending days separate.
Ok...so I caved and checked the 3 eggs under the broody...all 3 have internally pipped and are all over in the eggs and chirping. We are very dry outside, extremely low humidity right now, so I brought them in. Made tiny holes in the tops of the eggs, and monitoring them now. 3 more Call babies coming!! Woohoo!

DG, working on your care and info sheet. Text me when you get those answers for me. Will plan for tomorrow to ship, should be an over night express flight. It's 2:30 here so need to do brooder clean outs and feed the newest hatchlings.

Your goslings should have yard time every day starting at day 3 with you with them. If you don't have a secure area 2-3 times 20/30 min is a good start. By day 5/7 they should be outside all day, and back in at night. We use landscape timbers with PVC pipe creating arched tips covered in chicken wire to create daytime playpens for the super young goslings. Shade cloth gives them protection for the heat and sun. If for some reason you can't get them out then they need greens brought to them every day. It is a very important part of their diet and helps reduce risk of angel wing. Goslings fed too much protein and not allowed significant grazing time suffer from it most often.

dutch.
i took my hens eggs just so i didnt have to deal with her again.
she was horrible.
hissing and bitting me .
i wasnt dealing with that again.
3 int pipped . 1 doing nothing.

I have one of those too, but the silkies won't use it....they like the floor

I'm going to build something like that out of wood, set on the floor, with wire tops and wire doors. That way I can shut them in, and not have to worry about nest hopping and snakes. I'll make them extra long so they can set eggs in the back, and have room to come forward off eggs to eat, drink and poop, but not go anywhere. That's the plan, anyway, lol.
My 3 are rocking hard, too! I didn't pay attention to egg orientation when I brought them in...I know, I'm an idiot! So I'm watching them closely.

sounds like a great idea.

my bator is crammed full now. with all the sponges and 6 of them.
9 duck eggs due today.

6 silkie eggs

and 4 other duck eggs.

not much wiggle room. hopefully these guys can hatch on their own. if not i will have to move sponges and make room

I'm such an enabler

But it beats dealing with the broody, and not knowing what's going on!
i know.

i think she was happy to be done. went back out to check her and she is in the pool.

now we will see if she tries to go back on the box..
