Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Ya'll are making me laugh hysterically instead of doing my work!!
Janet, I was bad a few minutes ago. I was bidding on the last eggs from Indigoseptember on ebay after I said I was finished. But alas, I was outbid.

LOL, Shannon! I saw that ebay listing and thought of you.

So, the plan is to fence off area for bachelors someplace else, keep 2 drakes, but separate my younger girls. That leaves 2 girls of age. Do I put them with drakes of keep them with girls?

If they are of age I would see if they are okay with the drakes as long as there isn't too much breeding going on

And of course, after I posted this, I realized how perverted that sounds!

Lots to do in birdland today. Most important, No. 1 is doing much better!! Starting to pace the pen and honk more.... which means she's feeling better! Probably will keep her locked up until tomorrow though, as I don't want her moving too much and aggravating injury site.

My trio of buffs are leaving today... express.... good chance I will get them by tomorrow!

Hubby and I will move bachelor drakes one more time into pasture and separate the breeding pairs from the youngsters. What a pain. If this does not work, we may find ourselves offering duck dinners to our closest friends.

We are also seriously considering turning the toulouse out with the africans. Pappa Gander loves them, but the africans act like jealous teenagers. I'm sure there will be scuffles among the youngsters. Just not sure if the toulouse are big/tough enough to handle it. The toulouse are 10 weeks and africans are 15 weeks. However, ultimately I only want to keep the dewlaps on house property using my side yards for daily turnout and the garage pens for overnight. But I guess I can always set up a 3rd turn out yard and garage pen if necessary.

Hello ladies, I was directed to come ask my question here, maybe you guys can help me out a bit. I have one Cayuga duck egg at day 30. His movement is great, he is definately trying to get out. He's pipped internally but can't seem to make an external pip. I've made the smallest hole, about the size of a pin head to give him a little oxygen, that was yesterday. I've been avoiding in any assistance. And hoped that after I gave him a little oxygen, he would pip and zip pretty quickly. I was just hoping for suggestions, don't like assisting too much because it makes my nerves go through the roof! I hatched my first kayuga duckling about a month ago, I did have to assist him, and he is doing excellently. I guess what I'm hoping for is someone to tell me to be PATIENT! Lol. All suggestions are very welcome and thank you in advance!

if you still have good movement you could try wrapping the egg losely in a damp wash cloth to help soften the shell without blocking the air hole..... I've only hatched geese hopefully one of the duck hatching ladies will pop in soon... good luck

Rachel, when did your duckling internally pip? A concern with externally pipping an egg is the risk of shrink wrap. When you pipped it, did you raise humidity in room before you took egg out of bator? Also, what is your humidity in bator now?
