They must just be rolling out. I went to remove the quail turner section and another egg was broken

Oh well I still have three of the bantam eggs and about 35 eggs total. I saw nice veining in two of the runner duck eggs and the last muscovy egg my hen abandoned is still developing. I am only a little sad about the bantam chicken eggs, I really want some of the runner duck eggs to hatch, the chicken eggs I bought to "test" the incubator and I don't know what I would do with 24 chickens if they all hatched.

Hey guys, dropping in to say hi too.

Jaz, that is a beautiful picture of your beautiful pup!! I really enjoyed seeing it! Thanks for sharing.

Quackers, congrats on the new babies!! If I forgot to post before, I'm very sorry about your silkie eggs.

I am glad to be home from my trip. Hubby did a great job taking care of everyone, but Spirit had a bad day and scared the heck out of hubby. She also developed angel wing in the past 24 hours. Plus, our buff dewlap gander presented with a limp yesterday afternoon that did not resolve today with rest in pen, so hubby called vet and scheduled a 9am vet appt for tomorrow morning.
Thats a pic of the momma who just had a litter ~ AND for everyone concerned no birds were injured in the making of this pic

do any of us know what we'd do if all our eggs hatch?

Psue, have 30+ goslings growing out for fall selection even after selling eggs and hatchlings. (oh wait we do!) We had a stellar year with hatching from our stock, very pleased with our hatch/loss ratio being so low.

Thats awesome.... now hubby is talking Sebastopols.

my responce was "Not white!" and reminded him that a nice goose house is required! I'm concerned about letting them pasture with Embdens. So far Squishy is a darling and has never picked on anyone

I think I am going to eat a couple of my all white sebbies.... I want to compare to my other geese, and the feathers would make a pretty bellydance costume !

Sue, we run all of them together outside of breeding season and the few breeds we keep get along. We have two Sebbie ganders who hate each other, so they tend to keep their distance. Why no white Sebbies for you? They are very stunning. The colors are great fun too, but much more work needed with them to breed good confirmation into them.

All I can say is do your research and ask lots of questions. There are a large number of "collectaholics" who don't have good stock, but breed anyways selling the offspring. Seen a number of supposed Sebastopols recently that look off for lack of a better word.

Yes a good house is needed, but if you are talking goslings then he has a year to build it. if he builds it they will come. :D

Hi all,

It has been a very long and emotional rollercoaster day. At my 9am vet appointment, my vet said.... and I am quoting her chart notes: "Hips starting to splay. Advised quality of life will quickly become unacceptable; recommended euthanasia." I asked her to refer me to another vet that she would consider a mentor, so she sent me to another place. We met with vet #2 at 4pm. This vet took xrays (1st vet has never offered and when asked by me she said unnecessary). He determined hips are fine, but lower leg has rotated 90 degrees. He said he could cast her foot to correct it, then break her leg and re-set it. He thought prognosis was actually pretty good. So, they put her under anesthesia and cast her foot. Vet said he was surprised that there was nice flexion and he was able to almost fully correct it today. She came out of the procedure really well. She is now back home in her pen, walking around, eating and drinking well, preening and chatting away.

He also gave me a series of pictures of a sling to help ease the weight off her good leg, if she appears to be having a hard time. Hubby is making a list and running to home depot to build it tonight, but so far she does not appear to need it.

We return in 5 days to remove cast and determine the next step.
