Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

That counts. Sounds like everyone's opinion is OUCH. I might do it anyway.. I don't know. I DID give birth 3 times.. that might hurt worse. Not sure.
What'd you call me?
Love the Boxcar Family!! LMAO!!
Hey Wulf!! 35 is a big number.
Gorgeous.
Don't you dare.

Giving birth is definitely worse. I have my toe and a tramp stamp, I could have ate dinner, knitted a sweater and read a book all at the same time while enduring both. I didn't hurt that bad to me. Everybody tolerates pain differently.

Thank you, Marty & Eyeheart. I've certainly shed a lot of tears today, but glad my tears are now relief for the moment, not grief like this morning. Not sure if I am patient or stubborn, but so long as Spirit wants to fight, I'll do what I can.

By the way, here is a picture of the sling my new favorite vet is having us build (shown with another gosling patient of his).
somedays I feel just like she does. Spirit will do great with you as a mom

Sue, we run all of them together outside of breeding season and the few breeds we keep get along. We have two Sebbie ganders who hate each other, so they tend to keep their distance. Why no white Sebbies for you? They are very stunning. The colors are great fun too, but much more work needed with them to breed good confirmation into them.
All I can say is do your research and ask lots of questions. There are a large number of "collectaholics" who don't have good stock, but breed anyways selling the offspring. Seen a number of supposed Sebastopols recently that look off for lack of a better word.
Yes a good house is needed, but if you are talking goslings then he has a year to build it.

if he builds it they will come.

The Embdens are white and frankly white and pink are 2 colors that I just really dont like (I'm weird like that) I perfer colors... I've never had a red or white rose in my rose garden either but I love roses with 2 or more colors mixed in. If we do decide to go into Sebbies I'm going to be doing some serious talking to you and reading the Sebbie forum. I'd only want good stock, no reason to throw good money out on so-so stock.
Hi all,

It has been a very long and emotional rollercoaster day. At my 9am vet appointment, my vet said.... and I am quoting her chart notes: "Hips starting to splay. Advised quality of life will quickly become unacceptable; recommended euthanasia." I asked her to refer me to another vet that she would consider a mentor, so she sent me to another place. We met with vet #2 at 4pm. This vet took xrays (1st vet has never offered and when asked by me she said unnecessary). He determined hips are fine, but lower leg has rotated 90 degrees. He said he could cast her foot to correct it, then break her leg and re-set it. He thought prognosis was actually pretty good. So, they put her under anesthesia and cast her foot. Vet said he was surprised that there was nice flexion and he was able to almost fully correct it today. She came out of the procedure really well. She is now back home in her pen, walking around, eating and drinking well, preening and chatting away.

He also gave me a series of pictures of a sling to help ease the weight off her good leg, if she appears to be having a hard time. Hubby is making a list and running to home depot to build it tonight, but so far she does not appear to need it.

We return in 5 days to remove cast and determine the next step.

Glad your a lawyer and didn't take the first opinion as "law" as it were. Good for you, Iain! What a day though.

Iain,

One day, when she's perfect (instead of just perfectly charming) and she's got her own healthy flock of goslings running around (or your selling some eggs for hatching) you'll be soooo proud of your goose daughter. (Not that you aren't allready!)

Wow Utah...sorry to hear about your day, but it sounds like it turned out for the best. He cast her club foot? His plan sounds good, but should have been done by the first vet while she was still really little. So the sling will allow her to get around?
My mother had a hen get stepped on by one of her horses. She babied the hen, and she healed up, but never walked right after that...more of a hobble along sort of gait. The leg wasn't set, so it just healed where it was. That hen lived for 4 more years, and raised chicks every year. She would probably still be hobbling around had a possum not got her. Just goes to show that an animal can overcome more than humans give them credit for.

It is a soft cast. I will take a pic in the morning. So far, she is getting up, walking around, and acting perfectly content. In fact, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me, she seems to be walking more normal than she has her entire short 5.5 week life. I agree it should have been done before. I told the vet I wished I had come to him sooner, but hopefully we found him before it was too late.

What does tracking show for your new goose babies????? Update, please!

Thank you Jerry and Sue! Jerry, great to see you! I miss you and your wonderfully witty posts. How are you doing??

Thank you all for your incredible support. It really means a lot to me.

Tracking says the same thing now as it did yesterday afternoon, when they were in San Jose, CA. Typical of the PO to not keep tracking info up to date. I should get a call around 6:15 in the morning.
Simon is losing all his fuzziness for feathers. I hate that....love his fuzziness!

Fingers crossed you get the call in the morning! Please post update as soon as you can! I am so hoping they arrive ok, you'd think I was the one receiving them.

How old is Simon now?

he says thank you. He's not been feeling well and we have the 10 year-old grandaughter this week.

He's been having trouble focusing so keeping up with everyone is too much right now.

Thank you very much for asking
