Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

We had very bad rain and winds last night. It wiped away the newest building (flipped it over and spread the contents). Too bad the contents was my buffs, started ducks, and a baby sebbie, and Luna my pet.

Actually, this morning so far I've recovered one gray dewlap, 4 buff dewlaps, the young sebbie, and 3 young khakis. I've lost one duck, Luna (Erins gosling), and a Khaki. Found the buff drounded (it blew into a koi pond) but no sign of Luna or the other buff. I've walked about 15 acres surrounding us this morning looking for them since 5. Its 6:30 now and I have up 10 minutes ago. All other adults are fine (and Celtics four were just dandy)

Celtic - If you need another ear, you know my number and may feel free to use it. (Did I mention 3 of 5 brothers, my DH, and my folks were all military)

Hope the storm wrecked no great violence elsewhere.

Oh, my quail are hatching again.

Marty thank you. Sorry the storm caused so much damage. Hope you find Luna, they will crawl under porches and into bushes when scared.

I sorta unleashed on DH's command yesterday. They are playing the "Not Me" game and I don't buy that line of crap.

Marty, I am so sad for you.

that Luna shows up!

Quackers... LOVE the pics!! So adorable!!

Kevin, hope your babies are ok! For what it is worth, we took our ganders' babies away from them every night when they were really young, and the ganders would be outside our front door every morning, waiting for the babies to be returned to them.

Kevin sorry to hear about the flood. Hope everything dries enough you can get everyone settled back out in their pens again soon.
Morning all,
Thanks for the well wishes for hubby. Just one day at a time around here.
Sue thanks for the ear

the military isn't what it use to be.
In critter news, we have two lavender Sebbies hatched this year, both are female!

will be leg banding them today to mark them as keepers. Starting to look at the goslings closer this week and make early picks. Looking like 2013 will be a fun season for sure. As of now I know we will run a trio of lavenders, we will also run white, grey, buff, lilac, splash but unsure of the final numbers in each group. Lots of pretty feathering starting to develope.
Hubby asked for me to help get outside to see his buff dewlap quad this weekend. They are getting huge! Going to start their house next week and move them from the brooder house to their permanent house. Thankful the teenager is handy and enjoys helping build fence, pens and houses.
Julie, premise always have such a rough start, and big sister "helping" her probably doesn't help much. How are all of her other mile markers? Our Bryson (who passed away) was early by 6 weeks and was so tiny. He made up for it though after he hit 1, and was fun to see his growth.
Kevin, we get those lovely rising waters here as part of our nasty summer storms and of course the hurricanes. Watch CL for dog crates and the plastic kennels. We keep them flat and stored away for just incase. The wire cages can be stacked nicely in a pinch. I use bungee cords hooked on the cage and large hooks or eye screws in the walls of the brooder house and barns to hold the stacked cages in place. The ratcheting style tie downs work well on stacks too. Rabbit wire cages work well for younger chicks ect. We have a set on a frame with 6 holes. The mandarins and wood ducks load into them for hurricanes.
Florida requires a disaster plan, so it has made it simple for us to share with others since we had to think ahead for what if.
She's done great. My oldest didn't walk until about the same age so I wasn't too worried about the walking, but my arms are ready for a break, lol. It'll be nice not having to carry her around as much soon. She's good communicating although not talking so much. She's very mechanically inclined though, the little brat has been able to work the remote control and unlock and make calls from my phone for months. She climbs like a little monkey too, i have to flip all our dining room chairs over and put them under the table or she'll be on top of it in seconds.
Very sorry about Bryson.

Thanks for sharing how he did, I try not to worry about Lala but sometimes everyone else's worries about her development make me second guess myself.

Hopefully you can find the duck and Luna safe and sound. I always worry a bit when we have storms, but there haven't been many this year here. Their coop was a garden shed previously and has stood through a few microbursts, but no one sleeps in there when it's not below freezing except the silkies. Is your house ok?

These babies are going to my boss in a day or two:

Nice looking ducklings!

I always worry about my daughter when hurricaines threaten Florida. She's young, and her friends are like..."hurricaine party". Jeesh! Here, the tornadoes usually give us very little warning. I don't know what I'd do if one came through here. I wouldn't be able to save all the animals, let alone my home. I'd load my dogs up and run, I guess.

Wow Marty! So sorry to hear that! I hope you find the rest of them.

Utah---Spirit is looking good! That first vet should have wrapped her foot like that to begin with...she'd be a lot farther along at this point. How is she today, and is she using the sling?

Dutch, thanks! Spirit is doing GREAT! She has been getting up and moving around without any problem ever since the procedure, so she has not needed the sling. She is still in required to stay in her 3x5 indoor pen with 30-45 minutes grass turnout into her 3x4 outdoor pen until our next appointment Monday morning, but I am also letting her out for a few minutes in her room (when cleaning pen) and she is actually running around on the carpet like a normal gosling.

My buff boy is not doing so well. He showed improvement with the meticam shot but it was only a temporary masking of the problem. We are now on day 5 since he first came up lame and I'd put him back at a strong 2 again. So, I called my new vet this morning. Unfortunately, they are totally jammed up today, so they had me record a video and email them to show current condition, instructed me to give him another meticam dose, then bring him in at 8am tomorrow for xrays/exam.

I am so frustrated with the 1st vet I could scream.

Dutch, how are your new babies doing???
They are fine....though the boy is obnoxious. I so didn't want Africans! They are older, so harder to bond with. I think the girl would be alright if it wasn't for the boy being so loud and obnoxious. It's so hot and humid outside, it's hard to want to stay out there to mess with them until late evening after chores. I'm going to keep at it, but may think about selling the Africans sooner than I'd planned. I just need to get the girl to the point I can let her run with the gang.

Thanks for the concern everyone

. Luckily we didn't get any rain today

. I reinforced all the pens and let everyone out. Bruce is reunited with the kiddos and is doing fine. The other geese were not happy to be touched though
