Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

The babies are okay but I didn't have a cage large enough for them all so I had to separate them for tonight

Morning all,
Sue tell Jerry I said hi and I hope he feeling better soon. Oh and don't over do it this week with the grand daughter he has goose houses to build after all!

anytime you have questions on the Sebbies just yell, I am still learning too, but willing to point you in the right direction.
Dutch, hope they are A OK this morning. Will bite my tongue on that entire thing. Oh and I was copied on the same email as you and Iain too.
Iain, wow is all I can say. What a way to return home. How is the other gosling hubby made an appointment for? I built a sling like that before for another animal, they work very well and are super simple to make.
We had Lav, Choc and mystery guinea keets hatch. Some Khakis from a nice strong blood line to add newness to our bloodlines here. The final three Sebbies hatched and were listed for sale after making sure they are good and strong. Worked on a new flight pen some this past weekend, figured out which netting we will cover it in and will be ordering it in. Have to trench around it next to bury the side panels.
Hubby had lost use of his legs, but then regained some use with the help of crutches to support his weight. He had to return to active duty, but can't drive so my day is spent getting him up and around and then back home. The baby (not such a baby at 17 months now) started picking up his toys and putting them away all on his own last week after he watched daddy try and get around his things.
I cannot believe they're still making him report to post in that condition.

Glad your little one is stepping up to be a good helper.
Celtic, wish there was a magic pill to make your hubby better. Sorry to hear he is having a long road to recovery. Hope his returning to work at least has a positive mental effect for him.

The other buff gander first presented to me as a strong 2 on the lameness scale on Sunday. He had improved with 48 hours rest to a 1 by the time he went to dvm yesterday. He received an anti-inflammatory injection into his joint and advised to continue rest for another 72 hours. He has improved somewhat since yesterday, and I'd rate him as a .5 on the lameness scale this morning. He should be perfectly fine in a day or two.

Update on Spirit: I am in a little bit of shock this morning. I was fully expecting to have to give her pain medications and put her in a sling to prevent splaying this morning. However, she is keeping legs under her, getting up and around without struggling, and does not appear to be in any distress. She is happily greeting me, eating and drinking really well too. I have a call out to the vet to report observations and see if ok to double indoor pen size and/or let her go outside for a while.

Here's Spirit this morning:

Wow! That vet did a wonderful job casting her foot!

Today has not been my day

. I had a flash flood earlier today so half the birds are in my back hallway

I hope you and the birds are doing okay and there's no major damage!

Thanks GQ surprisingly everything is still safe and sound. All the pens were safe from water from above but I never expected after all these years to deal with a flood. Looks like I need to prepare for worst case scenario

that may not be good. She might refuse them tomarrow. I'd leave her with one or two.
I was afraid of that. They'll all be together again early in the morning and I hope everything will be okay. I'll be out there to make sure no one gets hurt. If not I guess I'll be back to brooding inside again *sigh*

Sorry to hear about the flash floods. Good to hear everyone is okay. Missing you in 'the club'. LOL

Morning all,

Thanks for the well wishes for hubby. Just one day at a time around here.

Sue thanks for the ear :) the military isn't what it use to be.

In critter news, we have two lavender Sebbies hatched this year, both are female! :D will be leg banding them today to mark them as keepers. Starting to look at the goslings closer this week and make early picks. Looking like 2013 will be a fun season for sure. As of now I know we will run a trio of lavenders, we will also run white, grey, buff, lilac, splash but unsure of the final numbers in each group. Lots of pretty feathering starting to develope.

Hubby asked for me to help get outside to see his buff dewlap quad this weekend. They are getting huge! Going to start their house next week and move them from the brooder house to their permanent house. Thankful the teenager is handy and enjoys helping build fence, pens and houses.

Julie, premise always have such a rough start, and big sister "helping" her probably doesn't help much. How are all of her other mile markers? Our Bryson (who passed away) was early by 6 weeks and was so tiny. He made up for it though after he hit 1, and was fun to see his growth.

Kevin, we get those lovely rising waters here as part of our nasty summer storms and of course the hurricanes. Watch CL for dog crates and the plastic kennels. We keep them flat and stored away for just incase. The wire cages can be stacked nicely in a pinch. I use bungee cords hooked on the cage and large hooks or eye screws in the walls of the brooder house and barns to hold the stacked cages in place. The ratcheting style tie downs work well on stacks too. Rabbit wire cages work well for younger chicks ect. We have a set on a frame with 6 holes. The mandarins and wood ducks load into them for hurricanes.

Florida requires a disaster plan, so it has made it simple for us to share with others since we had to think ahead for what if.
